Sunday can't come any sooner for the Australian Open is upon us once again. ![Cool](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cool.gif) I wish to get back what I lost last year during this tournament as I took that Rafael Nadal in the finals and lost quite a bit on him. Roger Federer is the king of all these majors. But the last time I bet on him to win a finals he lost. So I do not know what is with my luck is with picking winners during the finals. ![Undecided](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/undecided.gif) I always avoid betting on the winner when topplayers such as Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, Murray play each other. It can always go either way, so it is risky to bet on the winner. I think it is better to bet on other things such as number of games or sets.

Federer is surely the big favorite because so many strong players will be absent or are in bad shape. But it is still the first real tournament of the season and therefore there can be many surprises. I think that if Federer overcomes the first week unscathed, he will win again this year.

It is indeed that Roger has the favorite as of this moment, but like what you've said there are unshaded, shaded players that are coming strong that will definitely give a hard time not only for Roger but also to the top 10. Australian Open is so exciting, though I'm eyeing Novak this year. Novak has been off last year and for sure he'd definitely work all things out, Hoping that he enhance or upgrade his strategies since almost all of his opponents (even the unshaded) already familiarize with his playing style. Roger and Nadal improve a lot over the past years despite their injuries and age (Roger). Since Murray is out, It's nice to see if Roger and Novak to play for the championship.

Del Potro is in the semifinals in Auckland and with this result will enter the top10 in the ranking Atp! I hope he can do a great season without injuries, he can potentially get on the podium of the Atp ranking!

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have both been seeded as the first and second respectively for the upcoming Australian Open, meaning that they only way they can possibly face each other is during the finals. Meanwhile Australia Open director defended his decision to invite Sharapova for the draw amid her doping controversy.

Personally, I find it good that Sharapova got her invitation, she is still a big draw for the Women's division, even more this year as Azarenka and S. Williams will not participate this year. Go Maria ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) !

Thanks for all the responses to my highlights I noticed in last years finals and will be taking the advice on not putting everything to one basket for the finals this time around. Thank you for that tip! ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) As for Del Potro. I watched him play in that one tournament and he was playing sick with a really bad case of the flu but extended it to 7 sets or something like this and was nothing short of a warrior performance. It was amazing to watch and I agree with you on that. If he is injury free and does not catch the flu this year, then we can see him rising up. Maybe starting with this tournament we can see him perform for the upcoming new years! ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

today, there was the draw for the Australian Open!
-in the UPPER part of the draw the quarter-final between Nadal and Cilic seems very likely.
-the MIDDLE-UPPER part of the draw, instead, is very hard with many players who can reach the quarter-finals: Dimitrov,Kyrgios,Shapovalov,Rublev,Tsonga,K.Anderson,Sock.
In the LOWER-MIDDLE part of the draw, Thiem and A.Zverev are the favorites for the quarter-final but will have to be afraid of Wawrinka and Djokovic ,respectively, if they have a good shape.
-in the LOWER part of the draw, Federer is obviously the big favorite. Del Potro or Goffin are the favorites to challenge him in the quarter-final

Very bad start for Zverev, he lost from Goffin, Federer and Kokkinakis. He can and must be much better.

Im already excited to see the games 2018 Australian open my favorite player is Kyrgios to enter quarter final but hopefully Federer and kyrgios will not in the same bracket so that there is a possibility that these to guys will meet at the final. but the possibility also that warwinka and Nadal will also the danger of going to final if these guys will are in good shapes.

I remember her last season not even making it past the first round in one tournament and just gave up on her any further in the year for 2017. That was when she was ranked #1 in the world for the WTA. Now it seems she has turned things around and is on the winning streak again. Good for her. ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Roberto Bautista Agut beat Juan Martin del Potro by three sets to win the Auckland open by 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. This is the second time that the Spanish has won the title within two years and he totally outclassed del Potro in the process.

I am wondering when Roger Federer is going to play, even though Nadal is the current world number 1, he isn't as popular as Federer and in the Women's side Venus Williams was shockingly knocked out by Belinda Benicic of Switzerland

Williams is already out of the tournament, but Bencic is a young talent and was already ranked top 10 two years ago. She fell back in rankings due to injury, but is now fighting her way back to the top!
