here are the matches of the first round of Davis Cup Wolrd Group:
France Vs Holland Japan vs Italy Croatia vs Canada Australia vs Germany Kazakhstan vs Switzerland Serbia vs Usa Belgium vs Hungary Spain vs Great Britain
so many important absences, for me the most interesting match is Australia vs Germany A.Zverev vs Kyrgios
France, Italy, Canada, Australia, Kazakhstan, USA, Belgium, Spain that's my opinion. Don't know who will play for other countries. But between Croatia and Canada I don't see how Canada could win this. Raonic is not playing. Pospisil is playing but he was sick and wouldn't play today if Polansky didn't get injured. So in my opinion Canada has one solid single player Shapovalov who doesn't know how to play on clay. Lost all matches on clay last season. They have also one good doubles player Nestor. On the other hand Croatia has Coric, Cilic & Dodig for doubles. I see Canada taking 1 point max and that one should be Shapovalov win over Galovic later today or maybe doubles tomorrow if Croatia has 2:0 and selects B team. Not to mention home advantage. I think so too. Everything that you said is exactly how it is, Croatia should win this round easily. Most interesting duel should be Australia vs Germany. Spain and Great Britain is interesting duel too but since Spain is host team, they chose clay and traditionally Spanish players are great on that surface. And USA team is huge favorite in duel with Serbia who chose clay also and try to gain some advantage over USA team but I think that it wouldn`t be enough, Serbian team is playing without their best and most experience three players.

All the other matches are on 1-1! the double could be decisive in many matches

So will all the top players be ready for the next big tournament? I am waiting for Andy Murray to come back into tennis from his hiatus. Since he missed the last two tournaments from when I remember him last to play in one. I am personally getting tired of Roger Federer winning all of them.

I will never get tired of watching Federer win tournaments His game style is closest to perfection that anybody managed to achieve in this sport. Meaning attractive, short points, easy for the body (less injuries).... On the other hand I would like to see all players, especially top ones back on the tour and 100% ready (Djokovic, Murray, Nadal, Wawrinka, Nishikori, Raonic...)

The more tournaments Federer wins, the happier I am . Last news I have read is that Djokovic is close to be 100% fit. Nadal is also almost back from his injury.

Australia V Germany was a great battle with Germany easily winning in the end. Nick Kyrgios was not at his best during this Davis Cup match up and it started to show in the final match against Alexander Zverev where he lost in straight sets even losing the 2nd set where he should of won.

Belgium with Goffin is very strong but I think that the USA playing at home and being able to choose the surface are slightly favorites, surely it is one of the most interesting matches.

I think he just wants to test the water here. I don't think he's aiming for the #1 spot here, but trying to see how he's body is recovering and responding from the grueling tournament he just won. So its gonna be a win-win for him. If he reaches semifinals then he is #1 again, (yay), if not then he will go back to the drawing board and probably will take longer rest again and just choose which tournaments will give him high rewards.

I am very sure that he is going to even the tournament itself and returning to the number one ranking is just because he has been playing very superbly and he deserves to be there.

Is Roger Federer really gunning for the number 1 spot here? Or he must take care of his health first? But I will be happy if he will reclaim that number 1 spot. Nadal already did, so I guess Roger should have his turns at the spot this year. If he marches to the quarter-finals, the possible opponent will be compatriot Stan Wawrinka. This will be another classic. As for the Davis Cup, USA will have the upper hand against Belgium here. I will also go with Spain, Croatia and France.

Last year we saw him pick the tournaments spread out to give his body enough time to recover for the Grand Slams but maybe he feels that his body is much better this year. I think it would be great to see him return to the number #1 spot because he does deserve it and make even more history by becoming the oldest number #1.

Well he did say that after his Australian Open win that his body feels better then ever so this is why we might see him play in many more tournaments. Another thing that I just though of and that is that he could be saying farewell to the fans and playing in as many tournaments this year as he can. Then if all goes well for Federer he can go on next year but only play in the Grand Slams.

Roger Federer is playing in Rotterdam against Ruben Bemelmans. So it should be an easy win for him against the Belgian to advance as it is only the first leg of the event. I expect Alexander Zverev to make it farther this time but someone said Stan Wawrinka was defeated in the Sofia Open. So don't know how far he will make it this tournament. I do remember him not even getting past the first round in the Australian Open cause I had a bet on him to win that match.
