Roger Federer is playing in Rotterdam against Ruben Bemelmans. So it should be an easy win for him against the Belgian to advance as it is only the first leg of the event. I expect Alexander Zverev to make it farther this time but someone said Stan Wawrinka was defeated in the Sofia Open. So don't know how far he will make it this tournament. I do remember him not even getting past the first round in the Australian Open cause I had a bet on him to win that match. I too think Zverev will go till finals . He always plays well in these tournaments ( hard court) , except grand slam in which he sucks idk why maybe because it's pressure.

Of course in grand slam event handling that pressure is not easy especially a young player like Zverev. it needs a lot of experience. but in this tournament, I think he can make it. and now he is in tremendous form maybe he will reach finals.

Isn't it she was given a wildcard in Qatar Open? She didn't take advantage of it. lol. I think age is catching up with her. Now in her 30's, she is slowly losing to the young generation and I think that the somewhat the drug related ban is still on her head that's why she can't perform as she uses to be. She won the first set though, but after that, everything went against her. I say given a few more tournaments, if she didn't perform well then I guess Maria S can call it a day. Maybe she can concentrate on her modelling career.

She even went to play in a center court as far as I can remember. So I think the organizers are putting here in the spotlight so that the women's tennis could regain its glory. Sadly though, she is already past his prime and she retire. Same with the men's, young lions are trying to upstage. And there will come a time that we will totally forgotten how she took the tennis world by storm.

Wawrinka is already out in Rotterdam!
now Federer has an easy draw: in the first round Bemelmans in the second round kohlschreiber, in the quarter-final one between Griekspoor, Haase and De Bakker. I think Federer will be back at 99% at the top of the atp ranking this week!

Yup, seems like its going to be an easy tourney for.. at least till the finals. Is Nadal out injured again? or is he playing some other tourney? If he wants to stay on top he might have to play a few more tourneys and collect points.

I am expecting he will be very careful which tournaments to play before clay season. That is the part when he wants to be on his best. It looks like easy draw for Federer. I can only see Kohlschreiber giving him some problems if he has a great day and Federer is not at his top level.

With Wawrinka already out, now the route to the number 1 spot is completely open for Federer. I would be very surprised if he doesn't reach at least the semi-final on this tournament. I agree with Trofo, Nadal is preparing himself for the clay season (especially for Roland Garros).

Today Federer won 6-1 6-2! He is in good shape and I think that besides returning to the first place in the atp ranking, he will win the tournament too. In addition to Wawrinka was also eliminated A.Zverev then he has an easy draw until the final

I'm sure that many are going to watch live in either TV or in the court itself. I don't know though if I can watch it because I don't want to jinx Roger in claiming the #1 spot once again. He should not take either of his opponent though. I'm sure he has face a lot of pressure games in the past. But this is one game that he really needs to stay focus and mentally tough. Let's all go cheer for him to win the match to truly cemented his legacy as one of the greatest player of the modern era.

Nice. I 100% agreed. Its remarkable that he was able to reclaim his throne at 36 years old and the oldest #1. Let's see how Nadal reacts, he is resting but I'm sure that he wants to get it back, although they are friends outside the court, but inside its different. This guys have a high level of competitiveness around them and wouldn't move an inch. What can I say? Congrats to Roger for being the #1 again and I'm sure tennis world is very happy to see him back at his throne.

It is really tough to keep that level of fitness and commitment at his age. Professional sports are brutal for the body & soul.

Maria Sharapova has been eliminated in the first round of the Qatar Open by Monica Niculescu beating here in three sets with 4-6,6-4,6-3 victory. This was Sharpova’s first appearance in the Qatar Open since 2013.
So has Simona Halep, due to retiring herself out of the tournament, which she did not need too . Which I don't know why because she won the match in straight sets to advance. But later on she withdrew from the tournament. Probably a unforeseen injury after the match. I just knew Caroline Wozniacki would win her match against Kerber to stay world's number 1 in the the wta rankings. She is quite good when she is on a roll like she has been since the Australian Open.

It is really tough to keep that level of fitness and commitment at his age. Professional sports are brutal for the body & soul. Right. Those athletes has really step up the game a notch higher like Federer and Nadal. Because at their age, they can still compete at this high levels that is not impossible like 10-20 years ago. Tennis maybe be evolving, but veterans learn to adopt as well and even reclaim what they used to be. Tennis is not a contact sports, but it is still as brutal as any sports out there. Imagine playing, running, serving, jumping in a average of 1-3 hrs every game is not that easy for the body and the soul as you point out. New trainings, technology emerges, but if your body is not willing then sooner or later they will retire. But both of them are still playing top notch tennis with their age is truly amazing.

It's great that Roger Federer again reached No.1 ranking oldest player to gain No.1, even at his age of 36 he is playing like a champion. There is a saying form is temporary class is permanent that is proven by GOAT Federer. Astonishing to watch his play at this age.

Congratulations to the great Roger Federer on creating history by becoming the oldest player to become No.1 (Breaking Agassi record ) . I doubt that he will finish the year end as no.1 though as he might skip the clay season but its such a great achievement . What a time to live.

Seriously maintaining form and becoming number one in Tennis game that too in this age it is great and unbelievable congratulation Federer. we are just at the beginning of 2018 so for me also it's doubtful that he can maintain his position throughout the year. no words to say about his achievement.
