NBA Central is reporting that Apple Computers may be in talks to purchase ESPN. This would give them rights to pretty much every sport and make AppleTV a sporting powerhouse. Given the ties between Apple and Disney, I’m surprised we don’t see Apple buy the entire company, but ESPN is a good start. Sports are about to takeover Apple products.

That would be the worst thing ever.  Watching baseball on appletv is the worst have you tried watching it yet?  I will watch significantly less sports if those does go through.  Not to mention having to be sucked up into their endless round of apple products which I'm not too fond of.  Ypu have me freaked out now lol.

I don't know if it will be good or bad, but it will be different for sports viewers. Apple devices are not liked by many, you will have to buy a device to watch sports. We shouldn't think of it only as America, there are millions of people watching these sports in many parts of the world.
I hope something good happens to everyone Smiley

I would think it’s good in many ways. Apple has more money than ESPN/Disney so I’m sure the service will improve. Apple also needs content and I’ve long thought they’d buy either Disney or Nintendo and with Nintendo executive laughing at Steve Jobs it seems clear a Disney acquisition would be good for them making this a good first step. AppleTV is also a lot cheaper than a cable subscription (that might change) so it’ll give more people an opportunity to see the games. Only downside is if you hate Apple or something. I couldn’t imagine anyone hating Apple more than Disney, but that’s just me (I don’t own Apple stock and as a developer dealing with them is a nightmare).

I guess that is the aim of Apple then and it's devices, yeah we can call that they only cater for a few percentage as far as worldwide use, but if they acquire and purchase ESPN then marketing and business wise, it make sense for them to do it to close the gap with Samsung or even overtake them.

So let's see, any huge acquisition could be good for us consumers, and it's a exaggerating price of $50 billion. But they know what they are doing and for sure they can get back that money in the next decade or less.

Alright, schedules are up for the upcoming new season. Still very early but it's quite exciting since we've been waiting for months before we see our favorite teams and players once again.

There will be two big games on the first day. The first game will be the Lost Angeles Lakers visiting the defending champions Denver Nuggets. Jokic should be fully energized after having a lot of fun in his native Serbia. The second game will be the 4-star team Phoenix Suns visiting its old teammate Chris Paul and the Golden State Warriors.

People are excited about the coming season but I would love to see Lillard and Harden get traded before the start of the season.
We all would love to see those two players that you mentioned land somewhere where they will feel at home. I don't think they will play well if they stick to their present teams.

2 more months before the tip-off and yes two great teams will start it. I wish the Lakers are ready because there's not much change that happened to their roster although I like the fact that they came from the play-in tournament last year and still ended up playing in the West Finals.
Nuggets on the other hand lost one good hand. Bruce Brown. But I think they are still a better team with a deep bench.

Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting this morning that the NBA is launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding James Harden’s claim that Daryl Morey is a liar and got him to sign a contract under false pretenses. The drama takes another step forward. I’m not sure what the NBA can do though. Maybe nullify the contract?
Oh, so that's it. I am not intrigued by what Daryl Morey did that would make Harden say those words.
Did Harden or his agent even read the contract first, or did Morey somehow edit it after the signing? NBA should really check this out or else this could become a virus and spread out to other teams if someone could get away with it.

I don't think that the NBA can simply nullify the contract, it might take a long investigation though, as they needed to get all the facts straight before making this hard decision, but nullifying it might have a ripple effect on some contracts on the NBA specially those who are signing or teams that are giving big money to NBA players right now.

For now, it seems that the case is his words against the owners word. So let's see how the NBA is going to settle this issues. Regardless if James is not happy Sixers should allow him to get out of contract and that could be the best settlement for him.

The content of the contract represents the formal agreement between James Harden and the 76ers. Any verbal promises made by Daryl Morey to James Harden without a witness might not hold legal weight, and the law would likely lean towards Daryl Morey's side. It's unfortunate to witness their relationship deteriorate, which is quite disheartening. Personally, I'm skeptical that any lawsuit or investigation would gain traction without a valid and substantial foundation.

Yeah, usually in the first game of the a new season, we will see the defending champion fight it out. But it's weird that it will be against the Los Angeles Lakers. Perhaps the NBA wanted viewership, and so they have to insert Lebron against the defending champs.

I might be also interested to see Jordan Poole going back to GSW for a game. Crazy what will be the atmosphere, will we gonna hear boos from the Warriors fans or will they appreciate what Jordan did to them and win a ring.

Poole went out without any issues with the Warriors, and for sure he understands that it's all about business in the NBA right now. He might have a issues with Green earlier and it could have cost them their seasons, but still he is a good Warrior in his short stint with them, he doesn't deserved if fans are going to boo him in Chase Center.

Does he really understand that? He's sad leaving the Warriors and we can see that he's not happy with it. Maybe he take that and slowly accept the situation since he can't do anything since the deal is done. Their beef with Green is great factor with this decision so I guess maybe we can see a great revenge for him if he face his old team mates since maybe he will perform very well just to prove that he just waste a talent like him.

Nothing that he can do for now. The deal was done, and he has been traded. That issue with Green influence it the most for sure, even there's no clear update about what happened.

But for me, I believe that the issue before still exists and for the management to save the team, they
needed to sacrifice Poole.

We may see him being appreciated as we know how good the Warriors fans they love cheering for
the old pals who played and win a ring for them.

Even if the commotion didn't happen I gues Warriors didn't have a choice but to trade either Green or Poole. But they know that Green's presence is much important especially Pool shows inconsistency last season. So they made that decision to save their team since Green's role is important on the rotation of GSW.

And since this deal already happen then its good consistent numbers so that his current team will feel that he is a big asset to their team and a big loss to Warriors for trading him.

If that is a verbal agreement, then yes it's not going to hold at any court even in the NBA, no pun intended. Maybe he was promised with a huge some of money after this season that's why James Harden agree.

And if that is the case, then it's a trickery done by the owner, but how many of us heard this kind of excuse before? I mean we hold someone the word that they give to us and suddenly chance it in the last minutes. Harden and his agent should have written everything before agreeing to the Sixers or at least with the owner.

There hasn't been an official statement from either party regarding the promises made to James Harden. Currently, the information available consists mostly of rumors. This article explores some of the speculations surrounding that particular topic.

https://sircharlesincharge.com/2023/08/19/nba-rumors-reason-harden-morey-liar/

Quote
Digging deeper into James Harden’s comments
After Harden’s comments, many speculated on why he called Morey a liar. Some believe that Morey had promised Harden to give him a max extension this offseason and then went back on that promise. In the end, though, it doesn’t appear that belief is accurate.

According to a recent report, the belief is that Harden called Morey a liar because of his reversal of stances on trading him before the start of the season. Seemingly, Morey probably gave Harden the “OK” to opt in with the guarantee or promise of trading him before the start of the season. Morey turning back on that plan would fall in line with Harden being upset with him and calling him a liar.

That always seemed like the reason behind all of this and made the most sense. It seems as if that is indeed the case.

To sum it of, it could be money (max deal) or a trade agreement.

So they made that decision to save their team since Green's role is important on the rotation of GSW.

And since this deal already happen then its good consistent numbers so that his current team will feel that he is a big asset to their team and a big loss to Warriors for trading him.

It was a tough choice to make because they know that Steve Kerr can still make some things possible and rectify their mistakes last season because that's what a team should do, Steve Kerr managed to train Poole properly and he can still do that again but the real thing is, behind all this, NBA is still a business and in the end of the day, the Warriors will choose who will stay and who will go.

Daryl Morey should think about their present situation more carefully and think what will be waiting for them along the road because the horizon isn't that actually far, whatever the result of this case, the Philly will suffer because it's their team and if Harden will not be compensated, he will leave without a doubt and probably, Joel Embiid as well. I think they don't want to have that, so it's either make this issue go away by compensating Harden or suffer the consequences.

I mean that would be unprecedented if the NBA got him out of that contract.  I think it sets a bad precedent in that anytime a player gets unhappy they can try to wiggle out of theor contract.  I would think the contract itself is the only underlying thing you can lean on.  Talk is talk, people always go back on their word.  If you want it documented insist that language gets drawn up in the contract.

Well, Jordan Poole should now just do what the best he can to preserve his worth because he doesn't have his former coach's back anymore and from now on it's a man for himself and he should care to bring their team to a championship right now in order to take revenge but that's not gonna happen if he doesn't learn from this and not try to improve his skills. That's not an easy thing to do of course, but to turn those anger into aspirations is the best thing he could do in order to show them who's lost was it.

So, it seems like they have a good base to go ahead and tank again if they want to.

It will be better if he will take it that way, bringing that fire inside him, proving that he's worth or impact will be enjoyed by his
new team, something that will let the Warriors management to regret what they did to him.

Too early though as we don't know what will happen to him in wearing new jersey and playing with his new teammates, all will be concluded
when the season starts and how him and his team will perform.

The best sanction that they can give to Harden is suspension for X number of games, or maybe a 1 year suspension, but it seems impossible.

His statement is very strong, and he repeated it while he was in China. That shows that he, and Morey really made a promise, but the other didn't give the max contract. Correct me, but is there any player in the league that got his contract nullified because of some reasons? Overall, Harden's statements, and his attitude towards the team will have an effect on him especially with his value. On the other hand, the Sixers really have a bad management for the last couple of years, and I will not be surprised if Embiid will request trade maybe next season because in an interview, it seems like he values having a title more than being loyal with a team especially if that team has a bad management.

Does he really understand that? He's sad leaving the Warriors and we can see that he's not happy with it.

We seem to have differing interpretations. I believe he's content with the trade, especially considering his inconsistency following the altercation with Draymond Green. His actions possibly indicated a lack of interest in continuing with the team, which might have influenced the management's decision to trade him.

Staying with the Warriors could have subjected him to ongoing criticism. Therefore, being traded to a new environment could be beneficial, allowing him to display his talents and hopefully forge strong bonds with his new team without facing any confrontations so he will not be punch in the face again. Smiley
This is about Jordan Poole, right?
@Distinctin That's right. Actually, the Poole haters are growing after he had a bad inconsistent season last year. The problem is, this ain't new. And I guess the expectation for him had grown after the championship. We saw him breaking his career records one after another and then he had his hot moments that dominates the whole game. After that, there's really nothing explosive anymore.
So even if it's sad to leave the Warriors, that will be the best path or will turn out to be a nemesis of the Warriors fans. This is for the best and who knows if he could grow his career on other teams. Maybe, that will make him more confident and be a pure point guard for another team and not just a shadow of Steph.

And after that incident with Draymond Green pre-season, I speculated that the fans are divided then, between choosing Green or choosing Jordan Poole. And it was obvious that when the game of Poole goes down, specially the turn overs and the attitude in the playoff wherein he said that he was not given time to play, then the his trade might come to play that early.

I guess it will still be the splash brothers in the end, I mean Poole could be a good addition to them, but having 3 players who play almost the same position are not going to work overtime, in my opinion.

The same case with Dame Lillard, he wanted to be traded to Miami and up to know we don't know if Portland can do that or if they are really that willing to allow Dame to get out of the team.

And so it's not as easy as it sounds for star players like Harden and Lillard to be traded. It might take another team, a 3rd team to be involved here in my opinion. Unless the destination team is willing to give up a lot of their future draft picks and some current roster to be in that trade block just to get either of this two superstars. So it's a big sacrifice as well with them.

If they go back to "the process" part it would be hard for fans to accept it, but to be fair they have two pieces that would be amazing for it, they could just send Harden away and get some good picks, and they could trade Embiid as well and get great picks too. Not only they do not have to get picks for those players neither, they could get players that can be turned into picks later on as well. So, it seems like they have a good base to go ahead and tank again if they want to.
If Harden could be easily traded, the 76ers management would have done it early in the offseason. So you're right that the 76ers are unlikely to get any acceptable offers from other teams because they probably want an equivalent trade, i.e. an all-star player. The problem is that there is hardly any team in the league that would be willing to trade its best player for Harden, who has been changing teams almost every year lately.

I think the teams which try to get these players have to figure out if it is a good idea to give up what they have to bring in these players. I actually do not think that this is a good trade-off. At least not if we think about the future. But one thing is true that if they do end up making the trade and bringing in a huge player like that, they are probably instantly going to get the results. That is probably not going to happen with the players that they have on the team. In future, they might be able to perform better. But that would have definitely taken time. So probably in that scenario, the sacrifice does make sense.
