Bitcoin might have not reached such a state if there is no altcoin to compete with it. Now altcoin is growing high which will soon make bitcoins grow.
you're right, I do not know what would happen without altcoin bitcoin, which clearly altcoin able to make bitcoin prices to be high, perhaps without altcoin bitcoin into something useless

If altcoins didnt exist i suppose all the money present at crypto market would be only at bitcoin, but others altcoins joined bitcoin offering each one something good and useful, the thing is without bitcoins others altcoins wouldnt make any sense. And one thing the developers from others altcoins for sure dreams and keep dreaming with their coin one day grow such as bitcoin made.

Altcoins helped more people get into the crypto world, people that sooner or later also became bitcoiners.

Altcoins had also advertising (remember DogeCar?), which also helped bitcoin.

Some altcoins bring innovation, which may become useful for bitcoin too someday...

They do dillute the market indeed, but not that much...

I think altcoin is just quick way to earn profit for developers, traders and short-term investor.
Most altcoin are failure, scam or just a clone.

Only few altcoin which bring innovation or awareness about cryptocurrency.

I agree on that. But most of those few could not have existed without this trend of making altcoins.
I know, it makes it very hard for a newcomer to see what to invest in, maybe it's hard for quite experienced ones too. But people will star with the coin they first heard of, then will use bitcoin, then will learn about "the others". I'd say it's pretty safe (unless somebody gets too greedy, of course, since those most likely will get burned).

I just wanted to get your opinions on this one , what do you think Bitcoin would be if there was no Alternative coins such Litecoin & Dogecoin and the others ...
I mean it would be better with or without them Bitcoin would have no value at all ?
not easy to imagine if in this world only exist one crypto currecny, maybe we just trade bitcoin to cash money,or trade bitcoin to stock and other foreign exchange,so many currecny will compete bitcoin, like paypal, perfectmoney and other.

Many altcoins have certainly added to the overall bitcoin movement. As they inspired many to take part. Yet, bitcoin has always been at the core and is what most revert back to given time.

It is most common to see altcoins fail after a period of time, and thus it is the natural migration of investors and users to eventually come back to Bitcoin.

The exceptions to this, however, will typically retain value for a fairly decent period of time. These coins include alts like Litecoin, Moneto, Ethereum, etc. Alts such as these are the most likely competitors, however they pose no threat to Bitcoin in the near future.

We need money that plays a number of different roles for the entire universe of financial activities.

1. We need money that provides anonymity for some things (legit and shady).
2. We need money that provides transparency (for auditing and public scrutiny, for example).
3. Highly secure stores of value (gold)
4. Convenient and fast transactions
5. Fee-free transactions
6. Hassle-free transactions.
7. Fast but strongly confirmed transactions.

And so on and on and on, not to mention things like smart contracts, multisig and so on. My point being, that no single cryptocurrency is going to simultaneously be the best possible currency in all categories of finance. It's not going to happen. You can craft a cryptocurrency that is super-secure for wealthy individuals to keep their wealth safe, but then don't expect it to be fast and convenient for when they want to pay for their gas and coffee with it at a Qwik Trip.

(You can mitigate some deficiencies with software tools, but the bottom line is that custom-crafted cryptos designed from the ground up for a particular purpose will always have an edge over cryptos designed for other purposes that have software tools to adapt them to situations for which they were not optimized. If nothing else the added software complexity is a penalty for the adapted competitor.)

So one of the things we see happening in the altcoin markets right now is that different coins are working on filling different niches in the financial universe. That's a positive development. They aren't all competing against each other, rather the competition is occurring between subgroups of altcoins.

So coming back to bitcoin, the blocksize debate is actually, in my opinion, largely a debate about what role bitcoin should play in the financial universe. Should it be a highly valued, secure store of value for the wealthy? If so then maybe we should keep blocks at 1 MB and let fees rise to maintain security.

Or should the flagship cryptocurrency seek more mainstream adoption with higher transaction volumes? That's more in line with what most of us want, myself included. But bitcoin has a problem here - many altcoins already boast higher transaction volume capability with faster block times. So if bitcoin wants to retain its flagship role as a mainstream adoption agent, it is behind the eight-ball in some significant ways that make the blockchain debate itself look relatively minor. The "First Mover" advantage is nice, but over the long run it loses to superior competition in the end since people really hate losing money to fees or dealing with hassles like long wait times, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I still hold a lot more BTC than altcoins in value. But bitcoin needs to define itself in order to be refined for the role it will play, and I don't see that happening very quickly or clearly. In the meantime the alts will keep filling niches and gaining traction, until someday maybe one or more of them eclipses our foundering flagship.

This is true, first i heard about Bitcoin but after a year of mining nothing left for me or to sell my gear or to play pc  games..I realised i can mine LTC and after that i have found whole bunch of new coins and my GPUs once again were very busy and hot.. This helped me to stay in the game.

Hehe, it's my story too. That's why I know it so well.
I mined Bitcoin with CPU and GPU for about a month. I learnt then that I have less than the minimum dust amount and way under the minimum the pool would pay out.
Then I tried out Dogecoin. Then many other coins. Some were (are!) interesting, some were disappointments. I learnt. And I'm still here.

Altcoins were a must into crypto world, bitcoin cant improve alone ,some altcoins are coming with fresh developers and great projects related to them ,soo this incentive bitcoin core to work out to get better and bring the best to bitcoin. If there isnt any altcoin i believe the most of us would be out of this world a long time ago, since only pioners were able to made a huge return from it,the same way its happening with altcoins now.

I think that the value of Bitcoin would be lower,  because Altcoins are also a way to make more people aware of cryptocurrencys.
Look at Dogecoin, I think that coin brought a lot of people in to Bitcoins.
And also some of them bring new techology's to the table, like Ethereum. Something like that brings a lot of attention to Bitcoin as well.

I remember watching Coinwarz every minute to see is there something more profitable to mine, and i mined in one day more then 10 coins. When difficulty rise i switch to another coin. I tried solo mining (alts)many times but this was successful only in the beginning.
After that i saw better potencial on exchanges. This is story of many of us.
i just don't see BTC without alts.

Without altcoin, I might never own bitcoin. Most of the bitcoin I got is obtained by selling altcoin, which I can mine.

Still today alts are something like big market of goods were you can invest in something and become part of an community and get profit at the end. All profit is stored in BTCs i guess. I only don't like obvious scams (ico), that can ruin reputation of Bitcoin. Yes alts and bitcoin are deeply related.

bitcoin was created before any of the altcoins that we know today. so any altcoin exists because of bitcoin and copying that idea. but also they are an alternative way of investment which only affect bitcoin amount that we all have.
Yes, it will be better to say that all other crypto currencies are because of bitcoin and bitcoin is not because of other crypto currencies. Other crypto currencies came into being after they noticed the success of bitcoin. It do not affect the bitcoin as bitcoin can bitterly stand alone as it was in the start.

Some people made fortunes with altcoins if were just bitcoin maybe it were already dead,as some altcoins improved and exposed a bit more the crypto world. In fact there is some users that converted all btc into altcoins others just mine altcoins and wait, with bitcoin the time to became rich has gone for the most, can take a good income from it but altcoins are hot and very volatil, earning and loosing 10% daily and aboves% imagine buy doge at 54 and it grows to 90 satoshis it would be an insane profit ,bitcoin cant make this happen soo easy, meaning bitcoin is the hardest coin to be pumped.

Bitcoin is the origin and the core so I think it will be very fine without altcoin since it is the main, Altcoins in the other way won't actually exist without bitcoin since it is the main and gets the media coverage.
