I think the number of active forum members here is probably as good an indicator of bitcoin's popularity as the number of addresses and other methods suggested. I guess there must be a Chinese Bitcointalk equivalent, so add that number in too. It would be a massive underestimation, but I fear that most other numbers would be overestimations.
2 million users/holders would be my ball park guess.
There has been some million transactions on the blockchain in all of history, we know that many people do hundreds or even thousands of transactions and some websites will do hundreds of transactions per day, so it seems fairly impossible that there is even 2 million users. Maybe a little less. And you cant relay for members here in our forum as number of bitcoin users.. and i think some bitcoin user still don't know this site and they are register in other forum like cryptoforum. So there's no way to speculate how much people are using bitcoin..

Is there a way to determine the number of people who are actually using Bitcoin till date? Who would have access to such information? Meaning a way to find out, how many new people have used Bitcoin in 2016 , so that we can say exponential growth is natural not artificially created by hoarders.
I m not sure any way is here to determine this. if we think that we can determine this, so it is time taking and also it has too much difficulties here. But i m sure the number of the people are growing up who using the bitcoins because 2016 is better for bitcoins. we can guess about it because bitcoin price is going up and also changes here in it, that's all prove that people have take interest in bitcoin and using it mostly.

Well it is really hard to determine how many people are involved into this crypto currency because i think at the moment there is no authentic way to find the actual numbers of people who are using it on their daily basis, so many people predicting different numbers and maybe in near future we will find the way to let know about this.

Bitcoin process about million transactions every week currently. I think there are up to 1 million users who use Bitcoin regularly, and definitively well over 10 millions who tried Bitcoin at least once or just bought and holding coins - blockchain.info alone has about this number of accounts.

This is very hard to calculate or to know how many people using bitcoins .in the first place everyday there's a new bitcoiner interested and to use bitcoins .also there's a people who stops bitcoin if they loose some money.so we can't count actual users especially the number of users in china and underground transactions.

Bitcointalk is the largest bitcoin forum. Please correct me if I'm wrong. So if we can have a idea how many peoples are using this forum than we can get an idea at least.
Maybe it will be 40-50% less from the actual number.

there's abount 100k where I stay.
And you know all of them? At this point every estimation of that nature is just wild guessing. Any guessing based on bitcoin services is not good either. Bitcointalk is the largest bitcoin forum. Please correct me if I'm wrong. So if we can have a idea how many peoples are using this forum than we can get an idea at least.

That means nothing. There is no obligation to use or even know about Bitcointalk when you use/own bitcoin. Suggesting that 50% of bitcoin users is registered is totally biased and untrue.

I don't think there is a way to measure the number of people who uses Bitcoins and if there will be like a survey of how many is using, I don't think one will admit that he or she is using Bitcoins regardless if active or not since not everyone who holds Bitcoins are actively spending it, they are keeping it for profits.

I don't think we can count it, all people around the world are using bitcoin and it's hard to know the actual number of it. Maybe we can make a sensus about it.

These numbers look close to what I think too. Although the number of accounts on blockchain.info doesn't give us the exact number of users, we can have an idea about it looking there. So I think the number of users is from 1 to 2 million.

I don't think you can really measure the number of people using bitcoin accurately at any time because bitcoin is free to sign up and doesn't need any ID, and is mostly anonymous. You can measure the number of used addresses, but a person or organization can have multiple addresses. Here: http://bitscan.com/bitnews/item/how-many-people-really-own-bitcoins-and-why-does-it-matter. It's quite outdated but you can safely say I think that there are around 2.5 million people right now using bitcoins. I think that's the absolutely minimum for now. It's really outdated I think the number of people using bitcoin are ten folds of that figures with so many countries and companies accepting and adopting bitcoin we cannot have the right figure because it is decentralized..

I don't think there are any way to know the exact number of people who are using bitcoin but maybe we can get an estimate of it. Say, maybe conduct a survey or something or watch the bitcoin market. I'm sure the market will show how many people are currently usin it. Might not be that accurate but atleast close.

First you have to define what you mean by "using Bitcoin"? Is owning enough, or do you have to transact regularly? For simplicity I will assume the former.
It is quite difficult to estimate the number of users. A possible upper bound is given by the absolute number of addresses with some Bitcoin on them, which is approx. 500k. However that figure might be misleading (underestimation), since many Bitcoiners use wallet services that use internal databases to allocate the funds of their users, while keeping the coins only on a few addresses.
On the other hand, many Bitcoiners use more than one address to store their funds, so it's also possible that the number of addresses in use is a huge overestimation of the number of actual users.
If I had to guess, I'd say the number of Bitcoin users is clearly larger than 100k and clearly smaller than 2 million.

I think bitcoin exchanges can provide somewhat close figures as to the number of actual bitcoin users. Most bitcoin users have bought or sold their coins at some point of time at these exchanges

Looking at the statistic in blockchain, there are 146M addresses with >0 BTC. This will be the upper limit.
As we know, almost all bitcoin users have more than 1 address with >0 BTC; I myself have at least 50 addresses with balance >0 BTC. Some enthusiasts and organizations have thousands of these addresses. My guess is that we are still <1 million users, but not far from that.

Like most people said, its very hard to determinate how much people are using btc. "More than 25 million addresses have been referenced in those 31 million transactions. The total number of addresses, of course, gives an upper limit for the number of possible bitcoin users. Naturally, not every address ever referenced is still in use. In fact, it turns out that less than 10 percent actually have any bitcoins in – fewer than 2.5 million. So that means an absolute maximum of around 2.5 million people own bitcoins right now."
Even if this number is correct, and I think it is, I would like to make a difference between people who are active and passive. Probably from this 2.5 million people just 10 % - 25 % are active people, who use btc everyday. And make at least one transaction everyday.
I showed btc to my sister, she one one couple free poker tournaments on nitrogen. I showed to her how to transfer it in her wallet and it stay like that for months.

I guess it is quite difficult to estimate. Some people use one address for everything and some uses online wallets that change addresses every time a transaction is issued. However, I am optimistic that we should have at least 200-300k users who actively monitoring the development of bitcoins.
