I wonder if the autotune firmware would freak out if you pulled the PWM line and ran the fans at 100%?

Are the issues you guys have been seeing with the S9 related only to certain batches? Trying to decide if it is worth the risk to buy one. Thoughts from S9 owners?
its not so much related to certain batches. its more related to how alot of people chose to run their miner which was outside in the heat of summer and or in a tiny room at over 90 degrees room temp lol. u I don't think this is true at all. My boards failed in a datacenter and most of the other people who reported failures are reputable miners using no different setups than they did for their S7 or A6 miners. Its happened in most of the batches up till the most recent ones so far, failures of entire boards, needing replacement or fixing by the manufacturer or their agents (bitmainwarranty). USually it happens within the first few weeks of ownership, or if you are really unlucky on day 91 (1 day outside warranty)  |

ive got a customers s9 in my datacenter that stopped hashing what i noticed is on the system tab , under overview were it says kernal info its saying socket error refused to connect or something to that extent ( should have taken a screen shot ) anyways the miner is not hashing and is not showing a red light.
i rember seeing something about this issue in this thread somewere but i cant seem to find it now
any idea on what i need to do to fix this , so far a reboot has not helped

let it run, it will hook up. if it is a batch 17 or later, it is going through checks and balances. |

USually it happens within the first few weeks of ownership, or if you are really unlucky on day 91 (1 day outside warranty) idk y i have to do this but i do....i like how u quoted only part of what i said and left the last part out. just wo we are perfectly clear here is the ENTIRE comment i made: "its not so much related to certain batches. its more related to how alot of people chose to run their miner which was outside in the heat of summer and or in a tiny room at over 90 degrees room temp lol. usually if you run them under the proper conditions you will be fine. i havent had a miner die yet *knock on wood* but some miners just fail for no good reason other than stuff failed....it happens. but the ones being abused dont fall under this category." if you check out the second to last sentence i stated "some miners just fail for no good reason". i believe that applies most to your situation.. the first part of my comment hasnt changed though. if you look at most of the complaints about their miners not working anymore you will notice alot of them arent run in the ideal conditions. im not talkin the most perfect of conditions either...there is always wiggle room but i think even the people running the miners in these conditions can agree that they just shouldnt be run that way. we have people running them in sheds and barns outside exposed to moisture and humidity and some people have posted pics of miners caked not in fine black dust but what looks like a clogged bathtub drains worth of hair and leaves and other junk and then they come here actin like they had no idea this wasnt the right way to use their machines lol. now im sorry yours failed. if you were in fact running them properly like you said you were then it sucks that they died and i feel for you i really do. but to say what i just said isnt true at all either means udk what ur talkin about or you havent read through the almost 150 pages of comments like i have. if you had done this you would have seen the arguments being made to justify running a miner in ambient temps of what can only be compared to as a hot ass California day and thats not including the ones where they were run outside in sheds or barns lol. with such densely packed miners like this simply saying "i could do it before" doesnt really apply. they need to be used in controlled environments at least to a certain point. now running them outside now isnt a good idea but even i will admit its not nearly as bad as running them outside in the summertime. there is still wear and tear being added to the miners but the temps are much lower so at least they dont run as hot anymore but its still not the ideal condition and never will be. |

Will Antminer S9's just stop mining if the internet goes down?
I want to set up a temp switch that just shuts off the ethernet switch if the temp gets too warm.
Would this harm the S9's?

when the internet went down at my dc 2 times ( one due to the main switch/hub dieing , and once due to isp issues ) all of my miners just start beeping and sit idle. it takes about 1-3 minutes from the they loose connection till they start beeping and go idle . u shoudlnt have to go threw all that as the miners should stop mining if they get to hot anyways |

Hi numnuts, While I agree with most of what you have been proselytising regarding miner conditions the fact remains that you were wrong so it seems on the S9 temperatures. They like to run warm as evidenced by the autotune firmwares released by Bitmain that slow the fan speed to get the chip temps us. |

But to buy used antminer, it's risk always, even it's risk when you buy new and original. So it's always better to buy directly from bitmain and also once I bought it from aliexpress and I wasn't dissapointed, |

I have gotten eBay to shut down about ten of these auctions.
Sometimes they are slow so I'm sure people provide the bitcoin.

Well that's horseshit, I'd of not bought one had I known this. This and their fan control is nuts, why can't I set them to constantly be just less then blaring? up down up down, is annoying, and I doubt good for the fans lol... Anyone build a by pass plug to trick the machine and let me run the the fans off a rheostat? |

I have 7x s9, they were working perfectly, avg temps are 80-87, about a week ago one of them just stopped hashing and after unplugging from power and plugging in again it started mining again with no issues, today three of them did the same.
Is there any chance to see the logs why they turned off ?

3 new S9 B22 (11TH/s) arrived yesterday.
First miner plugged in, and working fine. Could be better when looking at stats, but okay =D
However, the other two new miners show strange behavior, even after installing latest firmware while closely following instructions.
It is similar to what other people wrote before, constant up and down of fan speed. (which is rather annoying, but in data-center setup, one doesn't hear it, but more worrying is, it doesn't seem to be enhancing the lifetime of miner and ventilators. especially when looking at the stats)
Looking at the miner stats the following was noted for one miner (the other problematic is similar).
1 card seems to do fine freq. 533MHz and temp of 91C. (slightly high)
1 card seems pretty low in freq. 420MHz and temp of 72C. (pretty low)
1 card seems to be quite high freq. 578MHz and a high temp of 102. (very high)
(I can upload screenshots if needed)
In average the hashrate achieves the ideal hashrate of 11 TH/S. However the frequencies and temperature of the low and high card are pretty worrying. Furthermore, actually one expect that the frequencies of the boards would be similar, something like all in range of a freq. 510MHz.
Honestly, being able to set the frequency manually would help. However, other people already stated that this is not possible with the latest firmware. Or is there already a new firmware again, which sets the right frequencies, or gives manual control?
Or is something seriously wrong with the 2 hothead miners?

New autotune frequency models are awful  I would never buy them. There is no way to touch frequency or fan settings in those (which is the main thing why they suck). You can try different autotune firmwares (from different date) and see if it works better. People here at forum have shared them, in this thread as well if I recall it right. The non-autotune firmwares don't work on the autotune models. |
