I didn't get the 11-28 version. Is the consensus that 11-28 is better than both 11-25 and 11-29? I would like one of the newer ones that evens out the fan cycling.

1. It is unwise for bitmain to roll out upgrades every day without proper testing and a description writeup. 2. If someone can organize a proper repository, people were volunteering to upload prior updates. 3. From my experience, socket error message should disappear in 5-7 min, but it you did some frantic actions, then it might not. two things: first just try a soft reboot in the system pane. If that did not work, try a hard reboot via PSU on/off switch. Keep it off for 15-20 sec. If that did not work, but miner is online, remove the copy of software that you were trying to upload from PC, then download it again. Once download is done, upload it to miner and let it do it's stuff for 10-15 min, then see if you got mhz choice pane (550, 600, 650). Choose, click on set, wait another 10 min, click on mining pane. If no mining, soft reboot in system (wait 7-10 min) and if not, again hard reboot and wait 7-10 min.
If all of the above did not work, miner is in trouble.

I did not upgrade two other S9 because the upgrade procedure was so bizarre. Who knows how long miner can tolerate being close or at 100C. I have a feeling that during summer/fall one of S9 boards faulted because of the high temp, but I could be wrong.

I think autotune should have been a new version. s9+ or something, s10. It's a different animal.

I tried going back to 7-15 550 tar and it did not work for me. The wheel was turning for 15 min, then disconnected. Not sure if the slow upload is to blame or software incompatibility (probably the former). Will try late tonight when there is less traffic to hosting. I don't like 11-25 at all. Maybe 50-100 more gh (on average) at the expense of boards staying at above 94C in ambient that is below 70F. It is kind of sad that they could not properly master their older S9 in 4 months that had passed.

Ja. Why Bitmain abandoned their practice of the "+", no idea. Especially considering that it is a one-way street in the s9 firmware's compatibility. Per Bitmain about using pre-batch 16 firmware in batch 16 and higher miners: CAUTION: This firmware is only valid for machines purchased prior to October 1, 2016. Using the firmware on machines purchased after that date (Batch 16, 17 and higher) will cause the machine to malfunction and void the warranty.

just return to old firmware ( 23Jul) and you will see your miner lost one board because of that autotune firmware remove the cable from damaged board and autotune firmware will return to work

It depends what has been burned. Give us a picture. One board is burnt under the heat sinks which I have not yet removed and also burned on the front end. A second board has light burn marks on the front end as well. Hard to see in these pictures http://imgur.com/a/owLyEhttp://imgur.com/a/FdSCihttp://imgur.com/a/RVDci

I'm sure there are parts/heatsinks that can be used. If you send the pictures to bitmainwarranty.com and create a support ticket they can tell you for sure if they can repair.

I am curious to know what everyone else has done with junk boards. Maybe sidehack could salvage the asics and build a limited run of stick miners or pods?

Starting with chips in the s7 the combination of smaller package size/finer lead pitch coupled with top sinks epoxied to them, all make the harvesting and reuse of the chips nigh impossible.

I was able to finally rollback my Batch 12 S9 to 7/11 version. What a relief! Chip temperatures are 10C lower, errors are 5-6 times lower as well. As far as i can see, bitmain was focused on autotuning and made a firmware (11-25) that is worse for non-autotuning batches. No progress at all for four months (in software) as far as early S9 batches are concerned.
