hy

in the antminer s9 interface under Miner configuration i dont have the option to modify the frequency. Do i have to update some specific software to have that option. The reason why is that i want to lower the frequency because the temperature is to high. constantly working o0n 100 celsius

tough luck dude.

all newer s9's are auto tune  :

no freq adjustments

Is it a problem to have it working on a temperature around 95 celsius?

105 is bad 95 should be good.

s9 gear breaks a lot  it is not very reliable.

at best  it has about a 10%  breakage rate.

I am at about 16%  3 bad boards of 21  and maybe  a fourth as I have a shaky board.

And 1 bad controller out of 7

speaking of Denver, they have had one of my boards for over a week now and still no diagnosis. Not very happy with them at the moment plus another s9 I own that they repaired runs like shit.

S9 11th and R4 reappeared as sold out items on bitmain.
Next step, they will probably un-grey, prepare your coins...if you got 'em..
...or pay the draconian 4% coinbase CC fee
I pass.

Been lurking for a while now... Good news! Is this what happened in the past prior to product becoming available?

I have been out of the mining game for a while now, but wanting to get my toes wet again. It seems Bitmain offers best bang for the buck for a while now? Though, it is arguable whether a ROI is possible or not evenb with an S9 at the moment. Are 5% reasonable assumed average difficulty jumps at the moment? What are the current thoughts on getting back in the game and a possible ROI? Start off with one or two S9s, due to possible hw problems? As far as I can tell, except for a PSU there are no accessories required. Power it up with an ethernet connection and good to go?

What are the experiences out there, about 24h data volumes mining with an S9? Is it feasible to mine via TOR?

What is the consensus out there about powering an S9 on an EVGA 1300 - should be a good fit?

What are the experiences with overseas shipping costs? What are the expected shipping costs to Europe, US, Australia, Africa anybody?

Sorry for these basic questions. I did browse through the thread, but really cant be reading the whole thing, even though it is a lot shorter then the old knc thread... I appreciate any thoughts an inputs (please don't shoot me down in flames Smiley

Just got my new S9 in.
Hashing at around 13.7 pool side.
Autotune only.  Yet my fastest and cheapest S9.
So far had one board go out on an older S9, and then the rest do about 1TH under what is reported.

I just got a new s9 yesterday and it's the best one yet for me. 13.5th using autotune. Hopefully it keeps going strong like this for the next couple years.

Good to know. What was the price for this 13.5 model?

About $1500-1505 shipped.
watch out for long term autotune.
It starts higher, then decreases a bit.

Nope, they are still trying to figure out what is wrong with the board. The board arrived in Denver Monday December 5.

Now I have a board not hashing on an R4

These were the same batch numbers they had mid-November.  I hope they are coming out with another batch soon.  Getting mighty cold around these parts and the better half complains about the garage being cold.  Would make a great Christmas present for her, right?   Grin

That is pretty weird. Usually it would be a version or two back.

Greetings!

I have a S9 that decided to have a board partially quit randomly, then I stupidly upgraded the firmware to the 11/29 version, where it entered an endless loop of:

get_pic_software_version
get_pic_software_version: version[0] = 0x42
After restore: chain[0] PIC fw version=0x42
chain[0] PIC need restore ...

Once those fail, it never seems to get what it wants, it goes to count the asics per board and ends up with 0's, it never starts hashing. I've left it on overnight the last few nights, it gets in the need restore loop and never actually does any work.

Went back to the old firmware pre autotune and one of the good boards doesn't even try booting anymore (No flash or anything), so it's down to one working board.

I'm pretty sure it's down to the pic firmware, if I could find a way to flash it back and hopefully verify it to a previous version (Any ideas on what firmware version is good?) at least the two good boards should work.

I did try stealing the single-board-test file and config from the autotune version, I have it running on an old non autotune firmware trying to reset the pic on the boards. No luck so far, but it's getting different numbers, so I'm hopeful. Not sure of the batch #, I ordered them in early September. Cyclone V boards.

I have tried it with just one board connected at a time (Known good boards and the bad board) Still nothing even after hours of waiting per test.

(UPDATE)
It's version updated! Not sure if it's good yet, but it's progress
get_pic_software_version: version[0] = 0xcc
Check chain[0] PIC fw version=0xcc
chain[0] PIC need restore ...

Looks like single-board test is happy with version 0xcc, it's moved on to chain[1]

Darn, rebooted it and chain[0] is reading 0x00 again, it got reset / wiped randomly

I'm starting to wonder if their "repair" is just reflashing the hash board firmware with a special devkit. That could explain why they won't share the repair process, because it would cost them easy repair $$$.

Got damn it, I now have 1x dead hash board with my S9 11.85Ths non-autotune model.
I contacted BitmainWarranty.
Does someone from the EU area have some experience with them?
I know that the closest service point near me is Russia.
Let's see if they could fix it there.
