I sent Bitmain Warranty an s9 hash board that was still under warranty but they charged me $200. You have to send to Hong Kong to get warranty work covered.
Yeah but shipping to Hong Kong costs 115. And you have to claim the board is worth under 45 dollars. So,if,board,is,lost or damaged oh well. And turnaround is 3 weeks. You are correct that bitmainwarranty charges on case by case basis on boards that China may cover. My best advice is figure at least 10-15 % in down time on your s9s And either warranty option is not really good.

Phil, How many of your failures were outside of the warranty window? Are most failures appearing relatively soon so you are covered by the warranty?
okay first five units All ordered in june ----- 1 dead board on day 80 sixth unit ordered in august ---------------- 2 dead boards and 1 dead controller all in under 2 weeks seventh unit ordered in NOV ----- auto tune still working. I did everyone with bitmain warranty so I paid shipping NJ USA to Colorado, USA My repairs were all free . My costs were shipping 15 to them 25 back to me so 4 x 40 = 160 I purchased some fans and 2 spare old firmware boards which are no longer available cost about 300 So 460-500 spent for repairs maintenance and spare parts. against 7 units of s9. Down time say 1 full month of 1 s9 which is around 250 in coin so lets say 750 lost for 7 s9's I won't count the 25-30 extra trips from my house to the solar array 6 mile round trip I am curious to know why your repairs were free? That's just Phil's repair "rate", for everyone else it is typically $175+$25 shipping back, plus whatever it actually costs to ship to them. Maybe $215 or about per board. Or they were warrantied? not sure if the denver site does warranty work or if that's just a name? lol Reminded me of this😆 https://goo.gl/images/Ysu00y. Merry Xmas folks! BR

Repair cost is different on each case due to what is broken. If you busted the ASIC it will not be cheap. Most are in the range of $25-$250 range depend on what is broken and how many items are broken. some are getting free repair if those unfortunate ones that experienced manufactures defect be repaired with just the return shipping, however, those are very rare as most damaged hash PCB are user caused or environment related damages.
Also, if unit was aquired from bitmainwarranty.com warranty work is all performed locally in USA, Russia, Ukraine and Venezuela and some are cross shipped based on the nature of the damages. (user caused damages vs defect)

"user caused or environment related damages" are not covered under warranty, so why won't Bitmain Warranty specify to the paying customer what damages they are paying to fix? If I take my car in for repair, the repair shop tells me what the specific problem is that I am paying for. If I have a hash board that is inop and I pay you to fix it, you should be able to tell me what you fixed on it. I also think the explanation of "user caused or environment related damages" is bullshit and Bitmain is refusing to own up to faulty equipment so that they will not be on the hook financially.

Well if I have a failed hash board I'm going to send mine to sidehack for repair service. I'm sure it will help to know what component they used for their planned obsolescence. Funny how they have been building up to selling parts. Previous miners were 100% more reliable. But they also sold it once and done. Hmmm we see where this leads. I think if we as humans try hard enough we can burn thru all our resources. Come one people it can be done! Wtf! BR

So in other words the 90 day warranty is worth absolutely nothing... There seriously needs to be some competition with Bitmain. I am surprised they don't have a class action lawsuit against them.
Like others have alluded to the idea of sick miners worth more to them than a good miner has a lot of merit. That is how our healthcare works... They make their money with sick patients not with healthy ones.

Basically, Phil was charged some, but his numbers are totally different from the others. Most people are charged $175+25=$200 for bitmainwarranty repair. It was satisfactory to me (at the time), but it suggests one of three things: 1. either some part almost always breaks down in a faulty board (50% probability) or 2. they just charge almost everyone the same because it is simpler (30% probability), profitable to them and is acceptable for the majority. 3. maybe (20% probability) it is also because bitmain proper charges them certain $$ for new boards and gives them certain $$ for non-functional ones (but not burned ones).

side note...of course healthcare (doctors) make money on sick patients, that is clear, but insurance companies make money on healthy people because they charge them premiums upfront, then reluctantly pay for some health services. If there is one despicable industry in US, it is the health care insurance companies.

People here had similar problems about bitmain's warranty. It will be better if you try more communication with them, they will answer your emails. If you are 100% true and with warranty terms you are eligible to be repair your antminer, than last solution is to open thread here with detailed description of your problem and of course with argumentation.

no question I got a cheaper repair then others. And from bitmainwarranty I have dealt with them on and off since 2013. So they were better to me then others. If you look at my thread about warranties you can read all about their treatment to me. I would rate it 75-80% of what a solid warranty should be. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1599630.0Now I am mostly mining gpu and I am having warranty issues with biostar. they have gear since nov 28th with no info which pretty bad. intel sent me a dead cpu (first ever for an intel in 20 years) in 7 days Asrock sent me a replacement mobo in 3 weeks newegg took a psu and a gpu back seasonic replaced a dead psu amazon has accepted 3 gpus for return sapphire was bad they want a receipt with a serial number and when newegg sent me the gear it did not have a serial number So 7 fast solid responses 1 complete fuck from sapphire---- I will never buy from them again 1 slow response from biostar jury is out. while 9 bad items seems terrible. This is for 25 mobos and 100 gpus. 25 psus at least 30 sticks of ram and 25 ssds. so it is 9 of 210 items since march. while the s9 is 4 of 28 since june I think it could be 5 of 28 as I may have a second dead controller. I would not be mining so much gpu if btc gear was 4 or 5 bad of 100 with good repairs. and long warranties.

they have a direct relationship with bitmain. if you are in the usa sending to them for out of warranty gear is a no brainer buying from them can also be better. sending a chinese purchased item from bitmain that is under warranty with bitmain to bitmainwarranty is a guess as to if you are better off. sending 1 board to china is about 100 bucks you have to declare it at 45 dollars so lost stolen or damaged you are fucked sending 1 board to colorado is about 18 usd if you are in usa and send it in a medium flat rate box with insurance for 300 repairs will be 150 to 175 + 25 shipping back. so you are out around 190 -225 sometimes they are fast sometimes they are slow so china repair you are out about 115-135 and 3 -4 weeks with a possible full loss of board usa repair you are out about 190-225 and 1 to 3 weeks with board insured for 300. pick your poison basically.

Another experience here regarding S9 repairs.
Out of five S9 units I have been through five hash board repairs and one IO / control board replacement. I used bitmainwarranty for various reasons, but mainly because of the time involved. My longest repair took two weeks. The pricing was $175 +$25 shipping three times, $132 including $25 shipping once, and $150 plus $25 shipping once. I purchased the IO and control boards and did the replacement myself on that issue.
Odd thing is two of the S9 units I have purchased were from a great forum member who can mention his name if he wants and four of the hash board repairs were from those two units. All have been ran in the exact same environment and I know this forum member takes great care of his equipment. He provides a great deal of advice and reviews here. Simply luck of the draw for me.
What I hope to see is the S9 be around for much longer than the past generations. We went through a period with S5s where you couldn't buy them for less than Bitmains list and Bitmain even went dry for a long time before the S7 was released so difficulty was much more controlled. I am not expecting the difficulty to be reigned in the way it was but the lifespan of a miner should exceed 8 months.
What I am getting at here is the 14/16 nm process. I expect to see Bitmain release new models, make improvements in various areas, etc, but I do not expect to see another die shrink anytime soon. If more effort is put into tweaking S9 performance we may be able to squeeze much longer life.
When you see an S9 hashboard providing approximately 4TH each it can put the competition in a different perspective. Truly price what you have gotten from your S9 experience against the competition and you may find the 6TH, etc much more cost effective, IE Avalon. Personally, Avalon didn't sit well with me by not accepting BTC as a payment option. This is our business and a company in this field refusing BTC as payment starts to rub the "principle" side the wrong way. However, I have been beaten to hell much less rubbed the wrong way by Bitmain China so many times I can certainly stand to be RUBBED wrong in one way or another from some competition.
The S9 failure rate is completely unacceptable and I have not purchased another one. I am selling and will continue to sell everything except the S9s, my PSUs, some spare parts and cables. I plan to keep mining and am looking for an opportunity to purchase a bulk order. I have been attempting to find something worth putting a significant amount of cash in for almost a year now. I wanted to purchase x00 S9s when they were released and thank everything good I was ignored by Bitmain. If I had ended up with the same failure rate % you all would be sick of reading my complaining by now. When I tried to discuss the purchase via e-mail, no answer. The Avalons price per TH was too much but it is time I should revisit that price.
Now it appears we have a couple of sources and Sidehack will have offerings on something with a decent amount of hashrate. That is the single reason I have held my S3 and S5 miners. I knew IF sidehack was able to get chips he has the ability to put a retro kit out and there is one thing I have zero doubts about and that is sidehack addressing a warranty situation. He does so the same way I treat my customers. The old saying above and beyond applies to his business and this is not words, this has been my personal experience with products purchased from him. I have always looked at how I can give sidehack money and couldn't be more excited to lurk in his threads regarding progress. I believe he has the ability, knowledge, and resources to pull in as needed if / when he reaches a position to scale up quickly. Myself and several others with electrical experience from basic to advanced have offered to drive over and help.
My parents generation was the Vietnam war, not WW II, but that generation still believed in taking pride in your work and looking towards a future with your customer base. Basic business models in this type of industry has proven time and time again that a small investment in customer service and support now pays huge dividends over the lifetime of your company.
Basically Bitmain have turned so many of their customer relationships into a vengeful type of "I buy from you because I do not have another choice." It has been and still is a long time coming but I can actually see the landscape changing. We will eventually have other choices. I was "first in line" to buy the S7 and S9. Unless I have another choice I will probably still purchase whatever next gen is released, but, I do it because it is what is available. Now, I do want to say my experience with bitmainwarranty in Colorado has been good. I have previously stated I firmly believe there are people working through that site who get it, but are controlled by policies put in place by the CEO in China and he cares about his existing largest accounts who are repeat customers.
In that vein I firmly do not believe the cheerleaders or fan boys who will not have a mature conversation regarding bitmain current failures. Do not take my comment wrong. I know there are people who have purchased bitmain products over the years who either have not experienced issues or, have been through what they consider to be good experiences with an issue. However, failing to recognize issues which continue to plague many of us and only cheering for Bitmain simply shows me how worthless ANY opinions put forth by such a person are not worth reading, much less a new miner trusting. People have expectations when purchasing certain equipment and electronic devices costing upwards of $2,000.00 should come with excellent support, turn-around time, optional cross-shipping, explanations of repairs, used parts marked and openly noted as used, etc I would never send a used part to a customer without first discussing it with them.
At least we are able to have the S9 hash boards "repaired." If I had known sidehack was repairing these I would have been discussing it with him. It isn't that bitmainwarranty in Colorado have sent me back unrepaired boards but for the price and the lack of details not to mention what sidehack does for this community I believe more of us should find ways to support his endeavours.
Good Luck to all of the home miners. Just since my short time of mining since 2014 so many people have departed. Hopefully many are still involved in various ways. The price of coin is nice and I hope it at least holds around $850 but I fear another drop as I recall the $190s and spent way too many coins around that price range. If I'd only held everything I made in 2015 rather than going all in on S7s I would be at a much higher P/L ratio.

Transaction fees go to the pools and the pools decide to pay them to the miners. Anything else, including off-chain solutions are stealing and not the way Bitcoin was intended to function. Make the block size set by the pool. Pool = miners and they get the choice.
