Great part about that is they can only do that once:). It was bound to correct soon anyway.  Was up up and away awefully fast

Exactly. Not like gold ETF's , they can sell paper gold all day.

actually, they CAN using margin and/or futures.
bitfinex has 10X and 20x leverage on some bitcoin positions
I get it that there is some difference, but it would be reduced even further when COIN ETF starts trading.

Hello people!

I recently cleaned up an Antminer S9 after several months of use. The good part is the temperature went down about 10° Celsius. The bad part is the fans are now doing an annoying whistling sound they didn´t do since it was new.  Huh

I have tried setting the fans from 60% to 95% and curiously the whistle is louder at lower fan speeds.

I remember in this tread somebody mentioned covering part of the front fan grille could reduce the whistling. I tried that and the whistle is reduced, but the board and chip temperatures rises. I also worry that's not a good solution long-term.

Could anybody share some advice about how to reduce the fan whistle without the temperatures going up?

Thanks a lot!

there is no way to do it. the grill or at the very least part of the grill has to be covered which restricts airflow which makes the temps rise. if you remove the grill the whistle will still be there too usually. your best bet is to cut a small piece of scotch tape and move it around on the grill until you find the right spot. then you cut the tape as small as possible until you use the least amount of tape to block the airflow which will reduce the impact it will have on the temps. i dont think its the grill or fan creating the noise though. the issue is the heat sinks not being on straight all the time and it makes some whistle louder than others.

Had the same problem with s7's.
My solution was to get some cheap fans the same dimensions as the fan only that were about 1/2 inch thick.
I gutted them and got longer screws to allow for a half inch gap between the fan and the miner, like a little tunnel.
Seemed to get the job done.
I have since removed them since they were at the datacenter and I did not care about noise. At home they were great.
Makes them a bit longer.
I think you only need to do the front OR the back fan. May need an extension on the fan wire.

Checking my farm, I have four 13.5th and two 11.0th s9 autotunes.
All the rest are 11.85th or 12.93th.

Thought id share this since noone seems to have much data on cold operations.  Least none that ive seen.  Antminer s9 batch 9  11.85 ths in Zero degree Fahrenheit!

anyone have any tricks to getting a s7 back online when it shows temp at 250c.  Seems no one fixed temp bug from s1 and it still plagues these miners.  Ive attempted at unchecking the box for over 80c stop mining but that doesn't effect it any.  It tries to warm up but never can start mining.  If the chip isnt over 0c it will not start hashing.  Very odd.  Is this software issue or is it that the chips don't like that cold?  TIA

EDit.  well looks like a no go for remote restart.  When they are too cold they absolutely will not start to hash.  Looks like a trip to the farm and some cardboard over the intake side:)  Some reason this one wont stay hashing. Normally cold isnt an issue but i think this one is loosing connection briefly causing it to cool down to an unstable state.

Boards temps need to be 50c or above for "normal" functionality from what I've experienced with miners.

I feel your fan speed is a bit too high. My S9 runs stably at -20 degC @ 35% manual fan speed. it's quiet and chip temps stay between 65 ~ 75 degC.

Customizable full-featured crypto trading platform in development. Asking for demo if interested.

I offer private S9 rental for various length: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1708351.0

I agree 4000rpm at 0 degrees F seems crazy
When it is that cold you should be able to run it on auto fan.

That is not leg work it is something about which we can talk when the batch will announce and what to expect and when this are the things on which we all can talk it is not" leg wotk"

But it has been discussed,
Extended warranty, aside from that there's no rumors or even reliable way to speculate on the next hash rate or cost, bitmain keeps it close until they announce, usually with about 12 hours notice to when sales open

Anything else is pure speculation.

Most interestingly, the price is the same $2995+$10 shipping for 11.85, 13, 13.5 and 14Th-check for yourself at Amazon.
ebay is even higher-up to $3500.
Ridiculous, but reminds me of early winter in 2014 when KnC stopped selling Jupiters and people were paying up to 12-14K/used miner.

payout from antpool was down 1/4 of normal last night.
Everything looks fine hashing fine but payout down 1/4
Not failing over.
antpool graphs fine.
Do I need a new wallet?  running multipool 4.1 wallet ant bitcoin core wallet 12.1
one wallet running on hardware and one on rentals, both lower payout 1/4

On second look, looks like payment timing is a bit screwy. Usually payout at 22:00, last two days payout 3:30 in the morning and the 20:30 in the evening.

2017-01-03 22:17:45
2017-01-02 22:26:24
That seems to explain.

My graphs showed some hours of nearly no hashrate. Probably the pool was online but didn't work. It's a bit strange, that the actual graphs don't show this outage anymore.
