Apparently the problem is that you did not troll enough to get 50 posts.

I mean, why would anyone post if there is no reason to post? Only answer is, to troll. So those who have less post than required, probably posted constructive stuff only and did not troll enough to be accepted to the main forums.

Good logic, but honestly I did do some trolling. I had a thread where I asked if Bitcoin could be used to promote diversity and made a big deal about Bitcoin becoming worth OVER NINE THOUSAND dollars in the future. I also said a lot of mean things to that selfish, Ayn Rand-obsessed weirdo "Atlas."

I wouldn't really conclude that the massive post count here would be the distributed throughout the board had this rule not been put in place. The post rate is due to people increasing their quality standards to get into the meaningful sections of this forum.

Those were my thoughts. I've been posting more not because I want to voice my opinions on some of these more mundane topics (not all of them are so, but some are simply posted to be posted) but so I can get into more meaningful discussions with the people who have been here longer.

Can't a brother get a little peace?

It's war on the streets and war in the Middle East.

Instead of a war on poverty they got a war on drugs so that the police can bother me!

And I ain't never done a crime I ain't have to do.

Decreasing, you mean... and yea, if I didn't need to get to 50 I'd be around 11 or so posts right now

It's not even the people who have been here longer, because some of them are stuck here too... it's just... the more meaningful threads...

The sad part is, they'll probably expend more time and energy moderating the abuse in this section than the scarce trolling that was happening before. Just wait until the morning as more and more people realize they're trapped in here. They'll be monitoring every post almost non-stop to avoid abusive spam posts to reach 50.

Dear admins, I'll pay you 0.001 BTC if you whitelist me.

Ok ok... 0.002 but no more. Address?

argh. I still can't post in the non-n00b forums. Dammit I've got a site to build. Ok ok I'll pay you 0.004. Look, I can keep this binary exponential bribe equation running for as long as it takes.

Do I hear 0.008?

Alright, let's skip past 0.016 and 0.032. I offer you 0.05 BTC - FINAL OFFER - so I can continue my options trading project and be allowed to communicate with like-minded individuals to bootstrap this economy.

I run a blog that has had at times comment threads that were hundreds of comments long. I was always accused by a few of "stifling free speech" when I kicked out trolls or otherwise moderated the conversation. I'll say here what I said there: My Blog (and this forum, of which I am only a member and not a mod or admin) is Not a Free Speech Zone. The Internet enables amazing advances in communication, including Bitcoin and anonymous free speech zones, like 4chan. But unless you want the quality of discourse characterized by 4chan, you've got to moderate in some fashion. Fora like this are essentially private clubs. Sure, they open their doors to the public, and that is how they gain membership. But a club has standards of behavior and discourse, or is forced to establish them at some point, or it will descend into chaos (notice I didn't say "anarchy.") Wink If you don't like the clubhouse rules, go establish your own— that is anarchy.

I think you gotta look at the forums like gorilla parties, you set one up, tell some people, party starts, it gets too big, party poopers come ruin it and everyone goes to find the next hot spot. My money is on bitcoinforums.net being the new up 'n commer..

agreed it is needed.   also, maybe people will start their own forums and communities of "like" bitcoiners will form and thrive.

maybe one forum is for traders and speculators, another for miners etc.

Why not just do amount of time logged in/viewing topics rather than 50 posts?

This was a good move, there were too many "world is ending" posts..

It doesn't change the fact that the actions are, to put not too fine a point on it, collective punishment over the actions of a few unruly individuals.

Could you please add me to the white-list?

I understand why you did this but I helped some people and can't even reply them anymore.

I spent a lot of time on another Dutch board where we can moderate other users by clicking "OK" or "NOT OK".
If a user gets "NOT OK" more than X times, moderators take a look at it and he can/will be banned for X hours or life.
But that may be hard to implement on this board for technical reasons.

a mod at 149, someone knows what he's doing. I've seen trolls with more posts..

Just wait until the morning as more and more people realize they're trapped in here. They'll be monitoring every post almost non-stop to avoid abusive spam posts to reach 50.

man, if they want to keep playing this game come morning they will have to turn everybody with 50+ into mods, not just free men. no joke, it still wouldn't be possible.. 90% of accounts are noobs. they need to start executing accounts like crazy so people are terrified that if their goddam joke isn't funny enough they lose their account. that outa learn 'em!
