Idealists don't understand if everything under the sun was equal, everything would be dead. We do with what we have can what we can.

Who are you talking to me or someone else? And I'm pretty sure it goes "We do what we can with what we have"  Wink

I wouldn't mind paying a few cBTC to bypass the newbie restrictions, so long as its less than or equal to the equivalent of 10 USD.

Bullshit.

BitCoin is about one thing and one thing only.

Freedom.

Freedom from the oppressive debt used by the insidious influence of the world that controls us.

But only if it doesnt make them, or what they created, look bad.

Situational freedom I suppose.

Appearance is everything.

They are willing to sacrifice freedom for the sake of public perception and legitimacy.

Just like Gavin is going to that ruse of a presentation at Langly to get debriefed by the intelligence community, when they know exactly what BitCoin is, exactly how it works, already parsed the source code, and read all the documentation. Question is what they really want from Gavin in return for not making waves for bitcoin.

Reminds me of the Hegeilian Dialectic. Problem, Reaction, Solution. But thats another subject, albiet related.

In my neck of the woods them's called whores, folks.

As long as their agenda is served, they will do anything for anyone, under any circumstances to make bitcoin a success.

mighty expensive whores if you ask me.

As far as I read, the restrictions were only introduced because of heavy trolling. And my experience tells me that a troll can find even better satisfaction in screwing existing discussions than in establishing new ones.
Don't think this is such a good idea... But the mods/admins will have more experience with them trolls Wink
I don't see how these restrictions (5 posts + 8 hours online) will prevent massive trolling. It is quite easy to make a bot which will keep newly registered profile online to take required nubmer of hours and post few sentences in this section.
I didn't said that those will prevent trolling. In fact a troll wouldn't need a bot at all cause he would be sitting bored in front of his pc anyway.

Now that i read about the decrease from 50 to 5 posts, my interest in discussing this topic in here is suddenly practically zero... hehe

You now need only 4 hours of online time plus 5 posts to become established. 8 hours seemed a little hard to get -- it might take some people several days.

My question is, who gets the bitcoins?
I would assume the admins would set up a wallet for the purpose so they could be used to help fund the forums, bitcoin project, or perhaps be donate them to EFF or other charities.

I say look at the facts and it seems to me this guy is no troll. was he against the new policy and vocal about it? absolutely, but is that trolling? I just read through his posts and with the new policy issue aside, he seemed to be quite helpful, he connected a guy with the amazon dealer, hooked up a guy with mining questions with the mining forum, explained to a newbie why he didn't think bitcoin was a scam, and told the guy to invest only if he believed in the ideology of the system, that it is not a get-rich-quick scheme, apparently he used the mod button(ok, that was dumb), but it was to get someone tech help. the list goes on and on. looking back quite a ways and I found that he has even dressed up as a friggin bitcoin a galavanted around manhattan. my god the more I look the more I see this guy as being anything but a troll. maybe we shouldn't be so quick to rush into judgement, it is a shame he has been banned, it seems to me that the only crime he commited was speaking out against this new policy, which by the way he was not even restricted by, as he has over 70 posts, he was posting in the newbie forum not because he had to, but because he chose to, and when speaking out against it, it was not to get himself free, or even to end the policy, but rather to try and devise a better solution. He is even posting over at bitcoinforum.net trying to with SgtSpike to devise a better system to keep trolls down. But hey, I guess if you are going to play in someone else court you might as well play by their rules. Cheerio!

You see the problem, non-german speaking readers?
Also, i request to get on the whitelist.

Why don't you eat your own dogfood and require people to pay a nominal BTC fee to prove they're not spammers?

Suggestion:

What about creating sub forums in the newbie section

A newbie mining sub-forum would catch all the "what PSU do i buy" posts

A newbie> merchant forum to help new merchants

etc.

This sounds like a decent idea. Either way, I'll make 50 at some point. Smiley
