Some desperates could try to make transaction of a certaina amount of money vía ebay or so. When the "product" is bought, you send the bitcoins. I would try it.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

This is basically an internment camp the moderators have herded the noobies into to stop the recent flux of trolls. See Japanese in WWII America for more information.

Perhaps a large announcement box at the top of every page would be best? I've seen this done on other forums when global announcements are necessary, like for scheduled downtime and the like.

Why would they do that?  That makes too much sense.  I had to find out from Reddit that I was restricted to this forum.  Was in the middle of talking to people on the Mining subforum, but guess I won't be finishing those conversations anytime soon.

Would be better if they just didn't let people with less than a certain number of posts to start new topics/threads. Oh well Undecided

Isn't 50 posts a little excessive?  So basically this newbies forum is going to be just a large group of people who are new to this bullshitting each other until they can actually go and ask people who know what they are talking about once they reach 50 posts?

I drink it up!

50 posts?! Seems a bit high to me - I can't really see what there is to talk about in a newbie forum, particularly for someone like me who has spent a while lurking without registering so knows the basics.

I agree. Potential trolls will just troll here until they have enough posts to troll everywhere else.

If the volatility doesn't decrease some soon I don't know that I'll feel 'safe' going to bed or even leaving the house while holding any BTCs. Could go to bed with the price at $15 and wake up to $10. Maybe much worse. Seeking $2-5 moves regularly right now in 5-10 minute spans.
This is certainly true. I wouldn't leave my money in BTC for any amount of time if I wasn't actively watching the market, certainly not overnight. Last night it was just under $20 and I assumed things would rebound to around $30. Then I woke up and it was trading at <$15.

I know it's a 'worldwide' currency but with this much volatility a 24/7 market doesn't seem like the best way to go but probably no helping/changing that. Even if it wasn't I guess we'd still have big gaps up and down...pros and cons no matter what.

In any case, I suppose the restrictions are a good idea. I guess I'll just have to play along until I get the ability to PM back.

I agree, this actually makes much more sense than an outright posting limitation.

Any way I can get whitelisted?  I haven't posted a lot, but have a ton of PMs.  Also have done a trade and you can see my name is the trusted trader list:

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=484.msg168192#msg168192

I was thinking to trade some more, and that's going to be hard tomorrow if I can't PM anyone.

the topic is say things the mods want to hear or get your account deleted, I have had one already taken down and this one is surely next, it is a shame considering all the time and energy i have put into studying bitcoin economics the past 5 months as well as the time i have put into making these bitcoin youtubes:

http://www.youtube.com/user/bitcoinewbie

enjoy Smiley if you are lucky enough to see this before it gets taken down.. lol. actually, this isn't funny it seriously is very disheartening.

I created the first bitcoin costume, have introduced countless people to bitcoin and i know for a fact some have gone on to invest, and yet my voice is silenced here.

Not a bad idea. Something like this might work:

10 posts - Can reply outside Newbies forum
15 posts - Can PM
25 posts - Can create new threads

I think it was a very bad move that is going to push a lot of new, honest people away.
I second allowing replies and only blocking new posts for newbies

Can I please be whitelisted? Huh I have not trolled and do not intend to...

"And what the enemy will see, they will see the flash of our cannons, and they will hear the ringing of our swords, and they will know what we can do! By the sweat of our brow and the strength of our backs and the courage in our hearts! Gentlemen, hoist the colors!"

Can I get a whitelisting? I registered last summer. I was in the middle of a transaction and now I'm going to be out more than 10 BTC with nothing to show for it unless I can send PMs again or someone can send me an off-forum way to contact CravenEconomics.
