Hi!  Rob Lister here.  Thanks for allowing me to login and post.

I heard about bitcoin about two weeks ago.  I saw the utility in it and so, read as much as I could about.  Very cool.  Very useful.  Great potential.  I downloaded the client played with it a bit.  I have a ZERO balance.  Therefore, someone should donate to me .02 bitcoins at 18qYFEWpXPWTTbnyTHhKxNJix371Uw2HmC

just kidding (ok, no i'm not)

Anyway...

I am intentionally retaining a degree of skepticism because I don't have a degree in computer science and have to take a lot of stuff on faith; stuff about the bitcoin markets, stuff about the currency architecture, stuff about the potential legal problems...lots of stuff.  For each item of 'stuff' there are threads galore on this forum (and others).  I'm reading about it.  I get the basics: you might even say i'm convinced of the basics.  I've seen no argument against the currency that holds water, or at least no argument that could not equally apply to the Dollar, the Pound or the Deutschmark.

So, I'm not going to outright buy any bitcoins, but if I can find an ebay-esk type website that will allow me to sell stuff, I'll do that.  Any links?

Also, is there an Alt-key that gives the bitcoin currency symbol?

I never paid attention to the most dreadfully boring subject (economics) in class. For some reason bitcoin has sparked an interest in me. So here I am trying to figure out why I didn't pay more attention.

Sorry to tell you, that you won't ever break even with this setup. We will see a difficulty of 10,000,000 in a couple of weeks, after that you can be glad to cover the costs of energy with GPU mining. Certainly you won't have the cost of investment back up to that point.

Hello, everyone. My name is Phinnaeus Gage and I live in Japan. Only kidding! I live in the US and my moniker is a pseudonym. Reason being: I want to remain...wait for it...anonymous. Yes, I enjoy injecting humor in my posts.

For the past 3 days, I've spent hours reading the messages on this forum. Yesterday, I spent eight hours reading everything @Allinvain wrote. I'm not a reporter of any kind, but wanted to see if I could help solve the missing bitcoins mystery. More on that in later posts after I past the newbie status.

I'm not a troll in any sense of the word.

My main objective is to start another "bitcoin only" commerce site, hence the joining of this forum. I won't be seeking suggestions, or the like, and will only share the site once it's up and running.

What I've enjoy about reading this forum is how the members, for the most part, have a high command of the English language. Thank you for that. I hope my contributations pass muster.

In closing, soon they'll may be an Onion headline that'll read: Chinese Prisoners Forced to Mine Bitcoins.

EDIT: With the exception of adding a missed period at the end of the last sentence, the above post has never been edited. What appears below this paragraph is a secret project I'm working on, started on 2-11-2013. If found, please don't tell anybody. I doubt if it will be found, for I've covered my tracks pretty damn good.

Hey guys,

I recently found out about this whole BitCoin thing, and became enthralled. I have a moderately powerful computer (3-core (4th unlocked) AMD phenom @ 3.0ghz, 12 gb RAM, and a Radeon 5770) So far my average hash rate has been about 170 Mhash/s, still working on ways to increase it. Other than that, I am a comp science major in Pennsylvania, and that is pretty much it.  Grin
