So when in Rome do as the Romans do; I have been watching Bitcoin for a while now, mainly for what I would have described in some groups as entertainment purposes or in others I might have said intellectual curiosity.

Anyhow, the recent flurry of security related activity with Bitcoin pushed me over the edge to start to dig deeper which brings me to this community.

My background is in authentication systems, smartcards, biometrics, protocols and such my specific interest in the forum is to explore the interest in there being a Bitcoin Smart Card; one where you could keep your ECDSA and maybe any other information that is necessary from the wallet.

The newest PIV card edge (the interface exposed by a smart card), the smartcard standard used by the DoD and their contractors, documents how to deal with ECDSA amongst other related operations and it wouldnt take a huge amount of work for these cards to be integrated into a Bitcoin wallet.

Anyway, that's why I am here to see if its worth exploring this once I can post elsewhere I will start a thread on the topic.

lurker here too.  started following bitcoin with the explosion first week of june.  as a speculator, day trader, and techie, i grew a quick interest and spent the next few days/weeks learning everything i could about the bitcoin.  i don't have the PC setup for mining, so i just play on the market.

Are you with Mt Gox?  I also just started, I'm not in the market yet, I am looking at it to see if I want in.

Both could be done but the problem with contactless cards is availability of readers, additionally the security protocols around their use are less mature.

My initial thinking is a USB form form factor solution with an embeded reader; all self managed with no central card management solution; this seems to be inline with the philisophical approach supported by Bitcoins in general, though it has some risk in that if you brick your card your SoL.
