An intro thread for a medium based upon anonimity Smiley

Anyway, I heard about bitcoins after reading an article about someone losing $500,000 on this stuff to a hacker.  Just poking my nose around doing "research."

I'm new, and totally excited to see how I can build up a mining rig to run 24/7 (hopefully with help from solar panels). Running on my spare PC right now, with an ATI 4850 doing about 80-82Mhash/s on BTCGuild. Overclocked the GPU to 725, underclocked Memory to 500 and it has been running steady for about 24 hours no hiccups.

My plan is to build a system with 3 or 4 ATI 5830's running (hopefully) about 300Mhash/s each when I move into my new place (I live in the boonies). I have already planned to invest in solar power for my home and was thinking of going the easy route (dubya dubya dubya clarianpower.com/solar.html) so I am not really worried about the electrical costs, as well as lighting costs due to the house using as much natural light as possible. I will probably have to use PCI-E extenders and build a custom case for the rig as well. I may have to use water cooling, but I am a total newb when it comes to that. That's pretty much it!

Yawn. No offense to Bitcoin Forum, but newbie posts restrictions are lame. Its the cop-out to legit moderators and IP monitoring. You could save some trouble by having email authentication, but im not here to criticize. Was trying to post in Mining and Tech discussions but guess i need to establish myself first.

So hi! I'm btc_jumpnrl!

I like bitcoins. And drinking and partying in college as much as I like good intelligent debates and discussions!  Look forward to posting as much as I lurk. :-p

Wow - this is the lamest way to prevent spam ever. I want to be involved in a discussion on the other boards so I took the time to register. But now I can't, because I'm a noob.

Come on - implement some captcha's or email verification. It's not that hard to do.

Hi,

I'm fairly new to Bitcoin. I've been using it for a few weeks and have used the forum to answer some of my questions in the past. I registered today, because I wanted to let those interested in the Bitcoin OS X homebrew formula (http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=3958.0) know that I submitted a patch to melek's previous formula. Hopefully, this attempt will be merged into homebrew, so that in the future Mac users can very easily get the headless client installed:

Code:
      $ brew install https://github.com/adamv/homebrew-alt/raw/master/versions/berkeley-db4.rb --without-java
      $ brew install boost
      $ brew install --ignore-dependencies bitcoind

The proposed patch does not link the install due to the dependency issue, but this can be resolved by using an optional flag:

Code:
      $ brew install --ignore-dependencies --no-keg-only bitcoind

The formula and pull request can be found here: https://github.com/mxcl/homebrew/pull/6110

Hello all, TerraHertz here. Eating my words (elsewhere) of just a couple of days ago, about how I'd stay out of Bitcoin due to thinking the entire thing is probably a government-run sting operation, intended to cause mucho pain to any who dare thumb their noses at Uncle Sam's worthless and soon to be hyperinflating paper.
See http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2612470 and  http://www.zgeek.com/content.php/7879-Alleged-500-000US-in-Bitcoins-stolen#new_comment

But then... the $500,000US in Bitcoins theft, MtGox flash crash, MtGox 'rollback' and all the arguing. Which make it clear that even though Bitcoin is probably going to be a very painful lesson to many, it's also going to be EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING in the process.
So... here I am running in the newbie mouse wheel. Heck, I may even put some money into this fun game.

TWO!
