Most definetly a scam!! Don't ever download anything sent to you in an email unless you were expecting an email for something you bought. Even then check links, etc. To add, the only safe place to download the bitcoin client is from the links at bitcoin.org . Mining software can be found here on the forums and even anything you download from here on the forum you should be sure that it is from a trusted source. If you are not sure, don't download it! Cheers and welcome to Bitcoin

If you're not excited by the idea of being an early adopter 'now', then you should come back in three or four years and either tell us "Told you it'd never work!" or join what should, by then, be a much more stable and easier-to-use system. - GA

I'm Bob Solovay, retired mathematician. I found out about Bitcoins from the article in the New York Times. I'm intrigued by the protocol. Many things about the project seem worrisome to me (scalability, the deflation problem, etc.) but I'm curious and i intend to explore.

Just discovered bitcoin, a bit obsessed!
but I've already learned: mining isn't for me. My slow little laptop can't do much, and I can't get any of those mining programs to work for me. BCP was fun for a minute...till I learned about the hidden fees!
Is that BitcoinPlus? What fees are they taking? Yes. Apparently there is a 0.01 transaction fee. Plus, you can only payout in units of 0.01, meaning everything starting at the 3rd place after the "." remains a part of BCP. Not worth it, if you ask me! better using freebitcoins http://www.freebitcoins.org/6509

I go by Miner99er... since I've been into computers since the time TI 99/4a, Atari 400, and Commodore 64 we flipping 1's and 0's. Curious how much they can hash for the hell of it actually!
Cards I got mining are
HD4850 @ 70MHash/s (It runs stock volts but 95C, crazy ass card.) HD6970 @ 330MHash/s (wifes card and I'm lucky she's letting me use it, so I'm not tweeking it too much)
And a couple HD5830's to game on and retire the HD4850 cooler garage.
I read in the news about the MTGOX hacking, was curious about Bitcoin after that, and now... here I am.

Hello all, I just started up mining not to long ago. i had a pretty good gaming system with 5850 in crossfire that i got about 2 years ago right when they came out. stumbled into bitcoins and just started mining on them for fun. started out with running them at stock at about 315 mh/s each. so 630 mh/s was getting around half a bitcoin a day back at the start of june. since then after some research and overclocking im able to get a 5850 stable at around 370 to 380 mh/s. i also built some custum rigs and running them 24/7 using more 5870 and 5850, i'm currently running about 4.7 to 5 ghz. as for temps im getting any where from 65 to 76 on a normal day depending on the card. on hot days i see as high has 82. i will be documenting my stuff on mining on youtube with tutorials on setting up stable mining rigs, over clock and pretty much just share all my experience that i have gain over the weeks of playing around with bitcoin. www.youtube.com/l2Bitcoin/ is the ch where ill be posting all the videos.

Hi everybody!
My name is Karsten, I am from fair Germany, and I go by the nick of kaosbit because I could not think of anything sensible.
I checked out bitcoins when a friend mentioned it to me, reading the whitepaper and some technical posts. Looks like an interesting bit of technology, pardon the pun, so I decided to get involved. I have no idea what I might actually use the BTC for once I get some... but then, I'm in for the fun and not for the money. We'll see.
In any case, I believe the whole topic may be good for a little software project or two, though I'm not sure when/if I ever might find the spare time. You know how it is with a full day job. But then, this gives my computer more idle time for mining!
Not sure what you guys usually have in terms of hardware; my platform probably is a tad exotic, being a Mac Pro 2 x 2.4 Quad Xeon with an ATI Radeon HD 5870. Apparently the GPU is good for mining, but the Apple OpenCL implementation seems to have its quirks. Diablo Miner gives me up to 211 mhashes, not too shabby, but below posted benchmark values. Oh well, I'll find some nice little pool to support.
Cheers, kaosbit

Hi folks! I started mining three weeks ago. I was going to post pictures and a description of my rig to the “Mining > Hardware > Pictures of your mining rigs!”-Thread, but it looks like I'll be stuck here for a while... Cheers, Heiko from Germany

Would take forever to accumulate one bitcoin. I have 0.025xxxxx there. I think I'll CPU-mine enough to get it to 0.03BTC and then cash out.
