Hi, I'm an extremely intelligent computer programmer who is interested in bitcoins for various reasons.

1) They have the potential to make me money through speculation
2) I can use it to allow people to buy products quite easily
3) I think the concept of bitcoins, how they are like cash, is the way all transactions should be. To avoid people knowing what people are doing.

love bitcoin, from it's technical details, through to the ideas and creation of a new system running from bitcoin.
I second that. Thank you Satoshi! Smiley

Indeed. Some very amazing people have stepped forward to make some amazing things happen.

Honestly slush amazes me, he tolerates everyone's bullshit so well.

heyas all, new bitcoin miner here...just starting only w/ one 6950 but gonna tweak it for max performance =)
Currently have just a GTX 460 768MB ... waiting for my 6950 to come in =P
I know Im consuming more than making but still is fun for these first few days =P
I get about 80mh/sec w/ the 460 clocked @ 870mhz core.

I wanted to post something in the mining section where someone talked about tweakin for best nv performance. I found the setting of -gputhreads=1024 to be the best ... the hardware comparison chart shows people running w/ way less than 1024, going from the recommended thread count(around 320 posted) to 1024 alone yeilded me another 7mhash.

I see GTX 460 clocked @ 950mhz not even pulling 80mh/sec! where w/ the 1024 threads they would pull more!

Whats required to be able to post in the rest of the forum?

please do so! and get a post Smiley

You asked for it.

Another newbie introducing himself.
I recently learned about Bitcoin, now I am trying to find out more.
For now, this is all basically a kind of MMORPG to me, does not seem too real. But that might change.

About me: Engineer, old enough to remember the cold war and 8-bit-CPUs used for general purpose personal computing.
Currently involved in wireless applications, used to work in the ISP business back in the 90ies.

Three year ago I suffered from a relapse to an old addiction and so I am using Macs again :-)
Currently I am struggling with the binary Bitcoin client which keeps crashing on me - and that is how I found this forum.

The client downloaded from bitcoin, org crashes at start immediately (segmentation violation signal at address 0x40, very strange) but it seems that the version installed over Macports does work.

I'll keep on it and report back.

Hi guys. I've been crawling though all the bitcoin info on these boards for two days, and I just want to express my gratitude. I think I'm starting to get my head wrapped around all of this, and though I don't quite have the solo mining thing perfectly understood, I'm now mining with my fabulous work pc and a macbook pro, and I'll soon have a home server and and imac to add to my resources. Could not have done it without you all, and I look forward to helping others out.

Hi. I'm Robbi. I like virtual currencies and virtual economics because it's fun, you could make some money, and it's coming to society whether we are ready or not!

I'll work on my profile and what I can offer the community as I read through these forums.

So much information!

Hi, I'm Cheezburga, totally new to this bitcoing "mining."
I saw a press release about it, and i thought it was a really
neat idea to have a currency not backed by a government.
Read a little of the FAQ said something about mining pools
would like to know what those are. Smiley any help is greatly appreciated.
