No, they can't harm you by knowing one of your receiving addresses.  They could send you coins.  :-)
Or they could check the trasactions for that particular address.  You can do it yourself here: http://blockexplorer.sytes.net/.  Good luck with your business idea.

The normal bitcoin software tries to force you to pay txn fees for certain payments. I mostly have no problem with these, they are very reasonable at the moment. More out of interest, is there a way to send these certain payments without the txn fee, with the normal software or with other software?? If so, what are the consequences? Thanks.

You pay fees for transactions of very small amounts or with coins which are very new (you got them recently and have few confirmations).  I have paid fees for all transactions smaller than 0.25, but not for 0.25 or higher.  Not sure if it'll be always like that or not, though.  There is much more information about fees in other threads.

There might be other alternative clients to the official one, but I doubt they'll allow you to send transactions without a fee if the protocol says there is a fee.  You are about to be free from the Newbie's zone, so you'll be able to post in other forums and not just look.

I have bought some equipment to make a small mining rig and currently am running at about 1 G/Hash.

I have a unique idea that would be very profitable for a small number of people that could be involved, however it would require some trust which seems to be in short supply here.

I see that I can generate just a few coins a week with my (so far) unlocked and un-oc'd cards. At least electricity is cheap where I live at 6.5 US cents per kwh.

So far this has been a fun project.
