The newbie restrictions kinda suck.  Can't imagine that that's the best solution.  Spammers that are targetting this site in particular can just automate 5 posts and wait the time, right?  So how it is any more effective than one of those crappy hard-coded captcha things (like "What is 5 + 5?" when you register) and possibly a time-limit?

Well anyway, off to wait out my newbie timeout.

Pretty strict restrictions but I suppose they are mandatory in a large site like this one.

The rule is ok, but when you want to reply it can be annoying

Right. Well, 5 replies is enough I think, but 4 hours.... it is little bit much.

Only 5 posts, only 5 with all those topics in the newbiesection you would think there is something you can reply to, so don't spam here.
There is no reason for that.

I dont like the restriction either - as I want to post some development stuff in the development part (and not the newbie section) and can't!
other forums or bitcoin sites use other rating sources by the way!
for example your ebay account with (in my case 118 positive) votes - which you could easily verify by sending a message to the bitcointalk profile there (if one existed).
if you scewed up you and your ebay account would be blacklisted.
it just needs some "moderators" - thats probably the problem with those rating solutions.

Since it seems like everybody has to post in this thread, I thought I'd leave this here rather than start a new thread.

As this is the de facto forum for bitcoin discussion, this policy actively discourages what should be a growing bitcoin community. I've read this forum a decent amount before I even tried to register, and limiting people like this prevents bitcoin from growing amongst the general populace in order to protect a select few forum members from trolls.

It's downright ironic that the first poster in this thread was a very informed woman that is a value to the bitcoin community who seems to have been driven off of these forums by outright irrational hostility and misogyny from a consistent poster as opposed to any deliberate troll. That's better trolling than anybody else could imagine and it comes from a person who is still a member here. Unbelievable.

I like the idea of restrictions, until they are applied to me.

Do all of the newbie posts have to be in different threads? We'll see I guess

Why are we not allowed to send private messages to members? I believe this to be somewhat unfair.
