Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Nice thread, now I know that I'm not the only newbie that find this status annoying.  I just wanted to post something informational but I guess that has to wait for some time.
I would find it much better if you would have to solve some sort of logical puzzle or do a bitcoin quiz in order to post, at least as long the newbie status isn't gone.

Interesting. I don't spend a lot of time in forums so I have have never actually run across restrictions like this before. I guess it makes sense...

I fully understand the restrictions concept to avoid spam issue, however posting 5 messages would lead to a long topic of useless stuff (... like the present one).
I did spend alot of time on this forum for documentation prior to mining installation. Now I got a huge problem, I cannot openly ask the community advice to solve it. Should I register sooner ? I certainly would with a clear restriction policy (like in top of forum, sticky annoucement, not only Newbie section).
Yet I find the log time pretty accurate to see if someone stay long enough on a forum to avoid hit'n'run poster.

I have just joined and understand the restrictions in place for newbies. I am looking forward to being able to participate in the other sections of the forum.  Cool

Just hit this restriction today when I attempted to post on mining hardware forum some information about FPGAs, which is kind of silly to post in the newbie section.

5 post restriction is very fair, I believe 24 hour restriction on posting elsewhere would be fine too (of course being a member for a month I may be biased Smiley ).

It's fair enough, if a little frustrating for those of us who are not troublemakers!

Yes, I understand the importance of these restrictions. But like others, I spent lots of time reading threads before actually joining. I didn't join until I needed to post.

The restrictions for new users seem reasonable for what you can get out of this..

I agree with it but this newbie section would be a lot of useless posting.
