Slightly annoying, but it appears it would be pretty easy to spam 5 "adequate" posts in this section within the space of a few minutes. Only going to be a minor inconvenience rather than deterrent to any serious spammers. Edit: I now see that there's a 4 hour logged in time thing as well. Now that's going to put spammers off, but not really going to be an issue for anybody that was lurking anyway .

I don't see how this should prevent trolls from just posting 5 posts

Seems fair to get rid of spammers. But atm it kind of sucks if you lurk more then you post.

Very sensible. Does the Technical Support Forum get trolled a lot? If not it would be handy to have it open.

Sensible but annoying But sensible. ...and annoying At least I'll learn a bit about the forum before being able to participate in a real manner. That said, there are other ways to deal with spammers, though this must have been given due consideration.

My name is Zak and I'm new to the board. Glad to meet everyone here. I was wondering how many posts you need or how you can post to other sections of the forum. I didn't have time to read through the whole forum right now and was interested in posting on topics in other threads. Someone let me know please.
Thanks

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts.

Honestly, people act like they are giving up a friggin' toe or something. I signed up yesterday after lurking for weeks and have racked up 8 hours and plenty of posts just reading up on things and doing a bit of trolling. It's not a big deal, and is enough of a deterrent to keep at least some of the shills away.
