I've got an idea:

There should be a faster alternative way of becoming a member (for those who do not want to spend 4 hours and write 5 posts).

For example, a newbie could donate 0.01 btc and automatically become a member.

Or he/she could make a deposit of 0.1 btc (which would automatically returned to her/him after she/he publishes N useful posts and spends M hours online).

I don't think trolls are ready to pay/risk their money.

Although it does tend to make sense to establish some level of restrictions to prohibit abuse I belive that the appropriate measure should be inacted. Perhaps I am incorrect but I get the impression that required posts to groom a new user for more privilages are not nessesarly reviewed for additive content. If this is turely the case then how does this deter someone from hitting the quota through random giberish?

I would think that content would need to be reviewd to ensure the validity of the new user if this method is to be in place. However, the other suggestion of opening an option to placing BTC down would ensure the person has something they really want other to read. This would support the form operator and reduce overhead of validating users that choose this path.

As a philosophical question: does this count?

The system for newbies is an encumbrance, such a pity we can't just be responsible.

In theory, someone who posts random gibberish would be caught before leaving the Newbie forum. Unfortunately, in practice, this doesn't work. It mainly doesn't work because everyone is too afraid to click the "Report to moderator" button. I'm not sure what we can do to fix that.

I would think that content would need to be reviewd to ensure the validity of the new user if this method is to be in place. However, the other suggestion of opening an option to placing BTC down would ensure the person has something they really want other to read. It's a great idea (I know that other people have brought it up), but I'm not too sure if we could do it without becoming corrupt. Our moderation team is already one of the best on the web, in my opinion. I'd hate to change that.

Fair enough, I don't like to wait but I guess it in some small way it  legitimises my honourable intentions.

I beleive that the waiting time should be reduced to like 3 hours.

The waiting time is silly though, if I post primariy from a mobile device (as I do), then it would be weeks before I reach 4 hours, because I can't have background tabs running.

Then you're simply making it a pay-to-use website, which is probably not the best for the community. 4 hours and 5 posts is not a huge amount, it really shouldn't take you that long if you actually plan to be active in the future.
