Thats good, this will be my first purchase from canaan however ive watched the site most of this year, they normally take awhile to post up that they are out. I think they do well with their stock.

Hopefully they will have enough to purchase some next week, i plan on doing 1 this week and 2-3 next wednesday (Due to the week of waiting on BTC to credit to account from USD).

Hey guys.....just got this.....anyone know what needs to be done.....

Ship date:
Sat 8/26/2017
CENTRAL, HK HK
Scheduled delivery:
Pending
MCN, GA US
Shipment requires importer's registration/identification number for clearance. (Examples include EIN, SSN, VAT, GST, RFC, etc.)
Recommended action:
Importer must provide the required registration/ identification number.
No scheduled delivery date available at this time.

How much did you buy?

If you got 3 or more you will be paying fees and taxes.

Contact fedex and ask them what they want from you.

This is not the IRS this would be import or trafif taxes and fees.

Yea...so I order 6 units...came to right under 5K....sucks!!!

150 would be the lowest fee

500 would be top fee.

I am guessing. The higher fee would be sales tax from your state.

Which may not be charged,  the 150 is getting charged.

You need to call fedex please let us know what they tell.

Yea, let us know how much it comes out too. I'm guessing you just give your SSN or EIN and quickly bring them home.

Anyone from the EU knows how much the fees will be for 3 pieces? 3k order so I think around 20% --> 600?  Lips sealed

Sales starts @ 4:00 in the morning (CEST UTC+2) in my time, it sucks a bit but lets hope they are not sold out within the first few hours.

You only need to pay VAT for the miners, so it depends on your country's VAT percentage.
In Finland we have VAT 24%, which is really nice.  "Smiley"

If you can get an S9 at retail prices, it'll hash faster for a little more price. Since they're constantly sold out and marked up, this is a better deal.

Don't sweat, take a deep breath, call fedex and give them your SSN. It should be released from customs same day. Been there done that.

Simple question  but complex answer.
___________________________________________________________________________
If you buy  from bitmain the next s-9 comes in Nov

if you buy from canaan the next 741 comes in Sept.  so time delivered   avalon 741 wins

____________________________________________________________________________
s-9 = 1350  for 13500 hash

741 = 850 for     7.5000 hash  plus  add 100 for rasp pi  but it does many avalon's

so $ per hash is close   slight edge  for  bitmain
____________________________________________________________________________

power cost

 s-9 say  .11 or .12 watts a gh
741 say  .15 or .16 watts a gh

bitmain is a clear cut winner
_________________________________________________________________________

maintainence

the s-9  gets dusty big time and must be cleaned of dust  every 90 to 120 days
the avalon 741  dust not get dusty  and you can wait  9 months to clean it
________________________________________________________________________
gear dying

the s-9's die off 1 of 10 each year is common
the avalon 741's  don't die much   1 of 20  each year seems rare.
_____________________________________________________________________

as a long term owner of both  with a dusty place to mine  but cheap power I favor the avalon 741  but  I will continue to grow and get some of each.

So I'm sold on the 741s and will hopefully grab some today. Two or Three, but want to keep it under that $2500 limit. Does the shipping cost cut into the $2500 limit?

Also, Bitmain very cruelly announced that they're going to release another batch of L3+ as well. Right now it would be worth it to own an L3+, but will it be worth it in 2-3 months when I actually get mine in?

Do you think I should focus on just the 741s and wait for the successor to the L3+ to be released, or go ahead and get both types to diversify the mining?

Don't think it does. In any case, when I ordered mine it was free-shipping Smiley FedEx International Economy. Sooo... Left HK a few days ago, literally spent 2 days in Taiwan, checked a couple hours ago and FedEx says is Japan...

Unless you have a spare Raspi around to use, don't forget to get a controller. If you do have a RasPi - canaan has a link to their How To burn an image to SD card for it.

220v power is by far best way to do things right.

As for Bitmain's alt miners, flip a (crypto) coin. You'll get arguments from both sides and of course from those like Phillipma who do both BTC and altcoin mining w/GPU's.

Nope... no raspi or controller. Just get the controller you think?

Snow_Dragon, they let you do direct bank transfer? I thought it had to be BTC except for 50+ unit orders. I'd rather do the bank transfer and avoid the charges from buying the BTC.

Most banks charge a fee for oversea's bank transfers plus then the wait and such for it to clear on their end. (During the wait they may sell out  Shocked )

Using Coinbase for 0.22926788 BTC i paid $14.90 in fees for a bank purchase which is what i will be using this time around.

Also the L3+ sell for 40LTC generally, if that holds true at 11am in hong kong then thats $2566

I was wondering, what with the volatility of BTC pricing, when you have ordered in the past what price do they tend to quote. The day the order is placed or the price the day they send you a wallet address?

<snip>
Ya their Pi is now over priced since they raised it to $100 but it IS a nice one and plug-n-play with the miners. Canaan says each Pi can run 4x strings of 5x miners (20) but I prefer only 2-3 per-USB port/dongle. Used to be $60 but I'd still just get it and be ready to go.

you can buy 1  it is a rasp pi.  it  can do up to 20 units but  I would say  do 4 on each one if you are small  time.

I build spare units for about 65 bucks.
