Well here I have some infos for you:
- Package says 2x 500$ and is sent by DHL-Express (customs fee is ~24% - 25%)
- DHL send me a Email for a comany and asks for a EORI-Number... In the telephon call I explained that I'm a private person, I don't have a clue what that number is and he said then I should send him the order confirmation from Avalon to confirm this.
- Customs fee have to paid to DHL at my door

Now waiting to arrive Smiley

Whew 25% custom fees! Really ? Is that normal, I had no idea they could be that high.
It is normal in the EU.

My anger against what is wrong in the Bitcoin community is productive:
Bitcointa.lk - Replace "Bitcointalk.org" with "Bitcointa.lk" in this url to see how this page looks like on a proper forum (Announcement Thread)
Hashfast.org - Wiki for screwed customers

Whew 25% custom fees! Really ? Is that normal, I had no idea they could be that high.

VAT is 19 to 25%
Import tax usually is nothing for electronics
Customs handling is usually a fixed fee like EUR 20 to EUR 50
Sometimes there is a 1% fee for pre-paying your VAT

Add all that up and you end up with 25%. But don't call it a customs fee, that is confusing.

VAT + customs duties.  Cry

Anyway, let's think about good things now that batch #2 units seems to be arriving...

The biggest question, after unpacking your unit and starting it up for the first time is: where do I go mining now?

If you have at least 5 units, you should certainly try to solo-mine for a while, it is the way it was in the beginning and true to the real spirit of bitcoin.

But if you have less than 5 units... well, I've got a shameless plug for you!

There is a nice, minimal pool which is, right now, searching for a few more GH/s to help it tame the continous difficulty increase we're living in.

It is HHTT, try it out for at least a couple of days, it is PPLNS, so it needs a little to pay your fully owed share of each block.

spiccioli

ps. I'm mining on it, so I have a vested interest in reducing pool variance. Smiley

OMG they answered my ticket within 5 minutes and my order (Feb 3) is now appearing in the store.

Almost the most beautiful day of my life...

and is shipping in 1-3 days.

I said before: I'll address shipping issues first, get production flowing, then I'll address tickets and ship units. there is literally no reason to do this before the first two is ready n set.

My order(10 feb) still does not show up in the store.

Batch 2 two unit order received.  Units are functional and mining.  Note: I was not able to find a Wi-fi antenna included in either package.  Units were exceptionally well packed in bubble wrap, plus 3 inch/7cm Foam cushioning and sturdy cardboard box.  Both units are black cases, one with silver fan grates, one with black fan grates.

Delivered successfully Via Beijing-Hong Kong-Cincinatti-Local Office.  (I picked up at the local office as I've moved and no longer at my old address.

Thank you Avalon.

To all patiently waiting, they will come.  It's hard, but they will come.

What does one need to do/buy if they want to use the wifi?  Ethernet is not an option for all my units, so I was really counting on using the wifi feature.

I would like to know as well.  The antenna connector is slightly larger than the connector for my Alfa USB Wireless adapter, with a much coarser thread pitch.  It is smaller than the connectors on my wrt54g.  I believe it to be an SMA-RP connector, but need to find a better picture (with scale) to be sure.

Cheers

RP-SMA is a standard, at least in EU.

After four and a half months, I finally have a tracking number for my three units.

I may even get a full return on the investment, even including customs and electricity costs!

I just got a tracking code for my Feb 2nd order. The status of the second order (Feb 18th) is still processing. It has been a long wait. Thanks for the awesome peer support in this thread!

BASIC-MINING / creativex has just received their Avalon batch #2 and they are already hashing as of now. For those who missed batch 2, it's time to get cheap shares on your favorite exchange... and for the rest, oh well they don't need to Wink
