What bothered me was Batch 1 "shipped" on January 20th.... fill in the rest. Without CNY, realistically we will start seeing batch 2s at the end of May. Timeline: April 30th, SMT line finished. 1st week of May: Build 300 units. 2nd week: last 300 units. 3rd week: Ship all units, takes 1 week to reach customers.
It means we have to wait for another month?
Delay and delay again!

At 75BTC each that's not happening unless you have free power and you can run them for years.

Not even in that case.
Meanwhile, the difficulty is skyrocketing and no one has the balls to blame that to Avalon and their holidays.

My anger against what is wrong in the Bitcoin community is productive:

Wow, they really take a vacation even when they said they will be shipping 15th of may? All they say is they are working hard, but the Avalon Customers arent seeing that at all. Batch 1 got delivered - nice. Now you tell me Asic Chips are going to be delivered before I receive batch 3? I mean, they got a delivery time of 8-10 weeks. I doubt I will see my avalon in my room mining within that time.

We are ramping up and the shipping of batch two has indeed begun, albeit not up to speed, we expect this situation to improve in a week or so once the equipment finish installing and the new, additional crew get use to the process.

That was the April 15th newsletter. I haven't heard anything about May the 15th, is that something new?

Regards,
Brian

While we are waiting for avalons to come in the mail, lets think of the worse thing possible that could happen. What if yifu and all of avalon just disapear now that they have all the money from batch 2 and 3 orders as well as selling bulk asic chips. That is a couple million $$ and no one could do anything about it.

They were supposed to be back from holidays, processing orders at full speed, on april 15, since the machines are finished and already mining for sometime now.

Quote
Speaking of batch two, we are unfortunately going to be late. This should not be too surprising as the delay from batch one will no doubt carry over. This delay also caused us to make drastic adjustments to our project timeline dealing with anything with a lead time like parts purchasing. We plan to start shipping majority of batch two orders starting on 15th of April. Not all the news is bad news however, originally around this period we are suppose to take this time to organize, make some changes and install a brand new SMT line in our facility. This upgrade will effectively double our production capacity, it enable us to put Avalon into the hands of our customer even faster. The new line is currently scheduled to come online during the last week of April. We expect batch two and three to ship much faster than batch one mainly there is no Chinese New Year and we have overcome the problems encountered in shipping batch one.

On to batch three, we at Avalon did not even wish to sell another batch. If you recall, our original plan was to produce only one batch, sell chips to thwart the centralization of mining, but due to the lackluster performance of our competitors we are here today as the exact centralization we tried to decouple. In addition, this delay is eating into our timeline for this project's future goals and various other projects. To be frank: it was a simple decision of build a mining farm ourselves and mine for a month or so to get the funding for things like the SMT line and next generation development vs. raise the price and sell units trying to get the money earlier to counterbalance the delay we have had. So, we came up with some terms and left the choice to the community.munity.

April 15 update:

Those who wish to trade in your FPGA generation Icarus or Lancelot: it is time to package and RMA those units back to us.. The bold text is probably when they will be starting.

my understanding is they raised prices for batch #3 instead of doing the mining for a month. The community decided their price wasn't too high and sold out within a day or so.

Well. This sucks. If you have to wait 4 months since "shipping", some batch 2 will not arrive till 4 months too.. lets say around august. Cripes.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

No, when bfl and asicminer will make the network difficulty skyrocket they will get rid of the units they are mining with - you can be sure that you will receive your (useless) batch 2 units before august.
