The fact people aren't migrating away from Coinbase en masse tells me something about people--they're mostly a bunch of apathetic wankers.

They can't leave now or they will forfeit their BCH which is airdropping on CoinBase sometime next year, lulzzzzzzzzz

CoinBase isn't even sharp enough to be embarrassed by their own nutty & ever-changing fork policies and their premature announcement of the BTG Launch.  If I was CEO I'd step down...  but then, this is Crypto.    Roll Eyes

still waiting on butterfly lab$ to ship!

I hope their former management are doomed to live a life of mediocrity, until they die from wasting away due to some horrifying malignant disease.

Sorry. BFL Corp took the fall with SEC. I think one person had a 30k fine for mining issues
on site. From what I understand they otherwise kept all the ill gotten BTC.

They are reading this post and ROFLAO at our puny curses 3years later

Every once in a while I think back to the shady exchange that absconded with my Litecoins. Still irks me. I can imagine how some of these scoundrels still get your goat. 3 years may be an eternity in crypto, but it all feels like yesterday to me.

Off topic...but that is a lot of coin they walked away with in 2014....they got away with almost all of it...BFL labs that is..the owners and principles involved...

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2016/02/bitcoin-startup-butterfly-labs-settles-with-ftc-for-38-6m-but-it-cant-pay/?comments=1&post=30676079

main player got a 15k fine...sheesh....again, I'm sure they are on this thread.....currently laughing their ass off ..especially if they  held the coin...worth mega millions now

I got banned from their chat room in August 2014 ...for bringing up all the things the SEC finally proved.....alas the SEC was only interested in settling with the BFL corp

and getting all that nice $$ from bankrupting it and fines to the US Gov't

anyway, crime pays  in crypto it seems

It's real estate. And I'm a rent-seeking land owner.

Every grotesquely rich American represents property, privileges, and pleasures that have been denied the many. Perhaps it's time to start giving back. Look into a charitable cause. And be kind to people. Smiley

Just like R0ach said I was.

Like all real heroes, roach had a fatal flaw. He refused to believe that he had gonorrhea, whereas the truth was that he did.

On Electrum you go on Coins tab and you spend them from there, one by one. Didn't you know that?  Wink
I was a Core man, but have been using Electrum recently and have been quite impressed. Watching-only wallets, like Armoury offers, was a deal sealer for me.
I'm planning to have a machine that is online 24/7 on a fast broadband connection so that I can set up a full bitcoin node that will help the network and that will be used with my Electrum wallet and all my other lightweight wallets.
Electrum is my choice since 2014, I would say that it has everything most bitcoiner need. Wink

Man we got price action over so many weeks and months.
This is just another sideways movement because nobody knows where we will hit next. Up or down?
I think we are way too spoiled at the moment. You can not expect the price to jump up every 2-4 weeks without any timeouts.
Would like to see how you would react if we for instance would go down 3.5-4k and see no real movements, just plain sideways, for 8-12 months!!
Times like this will happen! Question is only what the level of price will be.

r/K is the new alpha/beta. A way for insecure men to justify feeling superior based on some pseudo-scientific misappropriated concept.
No, not really.

Quote
The science behind r/K Selection theory was hashed out decades ago. It emerged as biologists pondered why some species reproduced slowly using monogamy and high-investment parenting, while other species reproduced explosively, using promiscuity and single parenting. At the time this science was developed, the researchers were wholly unaware of its relevance to our modern ideological battles in the world of politics. The terms r and K came from variables in equations which described how populations would change over time. r represented the maximal reproductive rate of an individual, while K represented the carrying capacity of an environment.
https://www.anonymousconservative.com/blog/the-theory/rk-selection-theory/

It is actually a logistic function (you know that famous S-curve?) adapted by Verhulst

But yes, ya really, it is precisely like I said.

Like with the alpha/beta thing, r/K has been lifted from a genuine scientific theory and misappropriated in order to serve conservative ideological needs in the political realm and the needs of fragile male egos in the realm of human interaction. Note how in both cases the person using the theory will always describe themselves as the superior variant within that theory and invoke the respectability of "scientific theory" to back up his feeling of superiority and justify his desire to control (or worse) the inferior people.

I don't think a website called "anonymousconservative" is where I want to get my etymological and scientific definitions from  Roll Eyes

Hang on, which do you feel is the superiour alternative again? And why?

Right, you get it from his books. If the books are wrong then explain how. They are free so you can't even use money as an excuse.

You could try Wikipedia, which defines the terms in pretty much the same way...

Every single person I've come across using r/K selection theory to describe human affairs has been defining themselves as a "K". This is an observation, not a value judgement on my part. I believe it is a value judgement on the part of the users, though.

I am not saying the books are "wrong", or that the scientific theory is flawed. I am saying people keep misappropriating the theory to serve their ideological needs. Anonymous conservative? Just reading through the synopsis of the book reveals its conservative bias. This is all I have to say about this at the moment. I won't try to argue people out of their dogmas, especially when they serve as a backbone to their identity as a superior human being.

There is a reason for this. The theory explains it. Have you actually read about it?

People with highly developed amygdalas tend towards the right of the political spectrum, while people with weakly developed same tend towards the left. This is really basic statistical analysis. K's are righties and r's are lefties.

And if the idea you oppose is a good one?

Every single person I've come across using r/K selection theory to describe human affairs has been defining themselves as a "K".

Then every single person that has likely labeled themselves as K is being dishonest with themselves and have not exercised introspection.

I agree with the general premise that most apex organisms will transition from an r to K (or even to Super K in rare cases).

It's possible to vacillate between r and K states throughout a lifetime.

I myself, can introspectively see my own development from r to K, back to r, then to K again, to (possibly) a Super K ? (supporting/leading a larger familial genetic pool/community, at the expense of failing to pass on my own genetics...)

Speaking to your point, however, I do believe that, ultimately, most apex organisms do aspire towards K status, but perhaps view themselves that way through a warped lense or lack of cognition.

And yes, I can see how some could argue this post is ironic and filled with flawed-logic.

Debate.

The pseudo-science claptrap du jour. Why bother Huh
Once again, nothing pseudo about it. Just science.

Would you like to list some, er... non-pseudo objections, shall we say? Or is it enough for you to throw around ad homs?

*Unless a change in POW helps to equalize mining power by making costs harder to scale.
...Your apparent belief that a change in PoW will make any difference in centralization is unpersuasive. No matter the technology, mining power will coalesce to those that possess the financial resources, the BizOps acumen, and most importantly the persistence and pain tolerance needed for entrepreneurship on a grand scale.

I don't believe this is true. If somehow PoW can be tied to a smartphone for "one phone one vote", those who have financial resources can screw themselves against the brute force of several billion smartphone users.

Just No. Those that have the resources will run hundreds of android emulator VMs on each of hundreds of servers, and we'll be right back with the same centralization problem we have today.
We won't, if we switch to to a RAM and RAM-access intensive PoW algo. Let them try to emulate terabytes of RAM in a time efficient way. No eh? Just as I thought.

there is some really ASIC-resistant PoW, used by Vertcoin and maybe others. If the PoW has to be changed I'd like that to bring back the VGAs.

Or ideally a regular change (2 yr?) is baked in so its a regular reset.

How about that? limit the return for custom hardware
