Looks like someone didn't cover their weekend shorts. Cheaper to crash Gox.

lol. You really believe someone is trying to sell 10k's of coins, and it just made Gox insta-die?
Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

As a UK guy I'm keeping my holdings as a majority on bitstamp cause I trust the UK way more than Japan to get my money back to some degree should this ever happen

And what's the relation between UK and Bitstamp?  Huh
Bitstamp is based in Reading, UK

On one hand if Bitstamp ripped me off I could pay them a visit, but on the other hand the Inland Revenue can get hold of information about any trades that I do there.  I like the way that the UK and US governments can't touch BTC-e though because it's in Russia

So they moved from Slovenia to UK.

Their bank is in Slovenia (probably favourable banking laws vs uk and usa) but they're a UK company.

Europe Smiley
Google Earth/Street View shows that address as a small industrial/office unit, and I don't see any sign on the building with Bitstamp written on it either.

They are a UK company NOW.

...you can also clearly see our company info www.bitstamp.net/about_us/ , company is registered in Slovenia and we are all Slovenian citizens

And no communication ... no message on their website ... nothing!

Yeah I really dont understand how incompetent someone can be..
My own service is made by 3 single people and even we provide status updates immediately when something goes wrong..
Really not understandable..

It seems that they're just one of many company names registered at that address, which belongs to @UK PLC - http://www.uk-plc.net/contact-ukplc.html

In April, Gox had most of the volume. So it was reasonable that a partially-lag-induced panic sell would lead prices on other exchanges down as well.

Now, Gox still has a significant share of volume, but far less than the 80% (lol) they used to brag about. So there is less likelihood of this 80+ minute lag affecting the other exchanges as much as it did in April.

Dump on Gox, if it happens, would cause dump on other exchanges. It might not be as extreme as in April but it would happen, just as it happened when dumps sent it below 300 on Saturday.

DDDOS

The attackers must have sold, seen the trend is holding and are now implementing a Desperation Distribution Denial of Service Attack

You said they didn't move from Slovenia to UK, that's not true. And I still don't believe they are a UK company.

No. They dumped high at the w/e with a view to buying low, but the price either didn't go low enough (it never hit the presumed target just above the previous ath) or just went up again too quickly, to allow them to buy back.

Not sure it was a DDOS. Gox was doing upgrades I thought. They put that on their news site / blog (forget where but saw it).

And DDOS doesn'T really do much with BTC these days. Really, it just increasing and strengthening it's anti-fragile nature.
