I live in the Netherlands so most people are sane here, and TP is still in the shelves amidst the outbreak.

And my focus is on staying safe. Got my surgical grade hand sanitizer. Food for 2 weeks if I get sick, etc.

Well I bought a big 60-roll (or something) pack at the Makro a while back. And I usually take a dump at work
Yesterday TP was still available in AH and Jumbo (Utrecht province).

Guys, I want you to remember something...and remember it well.

It only took ~4 weeks for the U.S. to go from the sentiment of "greatest, strongest economy evar!", "fully recovered!", "stock market at ATH!", to frantically needing another Fed $1.5T BAILOUT that's actually larger than the one need during the 2008 Financial Crisis that nearly collapsed the world economy.

Does that really sound like things have recovered and the U.S. economy is strong? Does that sound like the U.S. has gotten things under control? That the U.S. isn't a zombie economy just like every other country in the world?

People need to get their heads out of their asses, and start buying Bitcoin, Gold, Silver, really ANYTHING deflationary instead of fkn toilet paper and Purell.

(Bloomberg) -- Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the administration is pushing to send direct payments to Americans within two weeks, and the White House wants the checks to be larger than $1,000, according to people familiar with the matter.
“Americans need cash now, and the president wants to give cash now. And I mean now, in the next two weeks,” Mnuchin said Tuesday at a White House briefing alongside President Donald Trump.
The cash payments would be part of an $850 billion stimulus plan Mnuchin is negotiating with lawmakers to deal with the coronavirus outbreak. The administration has not decided on how much to send Americans, but wants the checks to exceed $1,000, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Mnuchin said the administration will aim not to send checks to millionaires but stressed the need for urgency. He was due to meet Republican lawmakers after the briefing.
“I think we’re going to do something that gets money to them as quickly as possible,” Trump said.
Mnuchin also said the government intends to keep stock markets open.
‘Practical Limitations’
It may not be practical to get money to Americans as fast as Trump desires. When Congress sent stimulus checks in 2009 to combat the financial crisis it took more than two months from the signing of the bill to checks hitting the mail.

It’s quickest and simplest for Congress to send the same amount to every individual person, but still will take months to happen, Marc Gerson, a former tax counsel for the House Ways and Means Committee, said. If lawmakers decide to give more money to lower-income workers, it becomes even more complicated.

“There are practical limitations with cutting checks,” he said.
In a further move to relieve financial stress on average Americans, Mnuchin said that individual taxpayers can get a deadline extension on paying taxes of up to $1 million and corporations can defer tax payments of up to $10 million. The deferments can total as much as $300 billion, Mnuchin said, up from $200 billion he proposed last week.
The 90-day delay gives taxpayers additional time to pay their outstanding tax liabilities without interest or penalties. The White House is encouraging taxpayers to still file by April 15 if they don’t owe the IRS any money.
‘Substantial Reduction’
Trump on Monday advised Americans not to meet in groups larger than 10, avoid restaurants and bars and to educate their children at home if practicable. Vice President Mike Pence said that if those social-distancing guidelines are followed, the U.S. may see “a substantial reduction in the spread of the coronavirus.”
There have been more than 5,000 cases of the virus in the U.S. and 91 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
Pence also said Tuesday the White House is asking construction companies to donate their supplies of N95 air-filtering masks to hospitals and to “forego making additional orders” in order to ensure health-care workers have sufficient access to the gear.

If more Americans knew what the hell you are talking about (and cared to), then perhaps I may not despise America as I do.

Since you allude to Jefferson, you may observe that Jefferson’s notion of a “natural aristocracy” was in essence an attempt to synthesize his own rationally aristocratic mentality with the “Enlightenment” ideals which he believed with a religious fervour.  The resulting vision of a State ruled by an educated middle class was what must surely be one of the most elegant populist theories ever imagined.  Too bad that it did not survive contact with reality.

I hold several of the American founders in the highest respect—both Federalists such as Washington and John Adams (plus Adams’ famous scholarly great-grandsons; read their stuff!), and Antifederalists such as Jefferson, Samuel Adams, et al.  I detest Americans all the more for betraying the gift bought with blood and honour by men greater than themselves, and bequeathed to them with a foolish generosity:  Freedom given freely, and discarded cheaply!

If my favourite American founders could see their country today, they would probably panic and beg the King to take them back.  Nowadays, the individual Americans whom I most respect are the ones who finally realize that the same patriotic principles which make them love what America could have been, must make them hate what America is.

Airlines spent 39 billions on buybacks, now looking for a handout of 50bil.
How about this: you did not have cash cushion (like AAPL, Berkshire, google, amazon, facebook), spent all your extra money on buybacks, then your equity goes bust, your stock is worth zero, bondholders get the planes, restructure. All money to help should be there to support the company, NOT the stock price.
