Yah, these block payout times on ethpool are getting ridiculous.  After the next payout, i may switch half to ethermine to get more regular payouts and point the other half to ZEC/ZCL.  It's getting warmer here (eventually) and that darn power bill is a problem

anyone else here think that the eth dive today is to jump in on buying BTC before it rises back to 1200+?

When I saw the shape of the falling edge of this price pattern:
I had a feeling the price was gonna dive.  It just didn't fit the rising patterns.  Reminds me of what I had seen in the past when ETH dropped down low a few times.

I myself;  I have been sticking to my original altcoin mining plan....   Haven't switched to ZEC/ETH during this stint or anything.

I always mine autoexchange pools, so profitability rises and falls with the market on all the algos;  not my future profit... I don't hold anything but BTC.  If ETH tanks low enough, I'm going to invest $100-1000, and let it sit there for a minimum of 2-3 years.

The algo I have been mining for the past few months;  nearly doubled in profitability for the last ~3-5 days, and now it seems to be ramping down a touch.....  But given the fall in BTC price;  the price per the algo i've been mining will probably stabilize and start to ramp up in payout amount again in a few days.

As soon as the batch of 1070's arrive in the mail, I'll be assembling a new rack-mount rig and prepping it to be installed in the server room of a certain tech giant....  We have a full rack and ip range at our disposal through some miracle I will not mention.

Hi Phil, what are your thoughts now of running a solar power operation?

I am thinking of buying and building infrastructure in CA, WA, CO, Oregon or AZ.

Very hard to give info as state by state laws differ .

But here goes .

NJ has good promos for solar power.
NJ has
Lower power cost in the winter and gear heat has value.
NJ has higher power cost in the summer  and gear heat has negative value.

Solar works better in the summer and worse in the winter due to sunlight .

So for NJ solar makes sense .  Especially if you do grid tied setup with no battery .

Oregon and Washington have cheap power. I would think a solar setup makes no economic sense.

Maybe in AZ it works  ALSO CA.

 Not sure about CO.

Dual mining should be CPU + GPU; but if dual mining 2 coins on GPUs -- I think it will strain the GPUs really fast.

I think I had probably done a injustice to my Pandaminer. Firsat few days when I got it, I was stress testing it with ETH+DCR and ETH+Pascal...  Huh

Now only single coin mining for the Panda because one of the GPUs (GPU #4) to be exact is kind off funky and ....

I need to downclock it to get it to work otherwise, it will just drop off if using the same settings with the rest of the other 7 GPUs.

I just sold off my DCR stash for a good return.

I have a strange feeling that China BTC pools will unite (ie. 626PH Antpool already signalling for BU) and throw their weight on BU protocol and give the Bitcoin Core team & Segwit... their stubby middle finger.... so I am going to use my DCR sale proceeds and buy some cheap ETH and ETC.

Someone in this thread was asking me for a pix of my rigs -- I was not able to due to security reasons because the warehouse is hosting a lot of my members/investors/buddies gear.

However this is a snapshot of what I can show. As you can see, 33 rigs and 25GHs X11 farm produces alot of heat since almost all rigs are open cage on wire racks. Sorry for the messy environment - it works but won't win any sexy-rig prizes like yun9999.

Currently on a hot day (I live near the equator, so there is no winter here), temps goes up to 38-40c so I need to move a lot of hot air out from the warehouse. My target is 35c or less -- currently its 37c.

I am using those blower x 1 (see pix) to help move the hot air out. A 2nd blower in progress.

All GPU rigs are custom rom modded for low power consumption at best hash ratio - thanks to Heliox/Eliovp's custom roms for RX480s and R9-Nanos.

All but 1 rig (WIN10) are on Linux smOS and SRR. ZEC mining with Optiminer v1.7 -- selling hash at NH marketplace.

On 35c target: Any better recommendations are greatly appreciated.

AZ and southern CA are very good solar areas from the standpoint of lots of sun and few cloudy days.
As I recall the largest commercial solar plants in the US are in AZ or in the Mohave Desert / Imperial Valley parts of CA.

CA also has the oldest and some of the largest commercial Wind Power farms in the US - I think the state overall has slipped to 3'd on total wind generation behind Texas and Iowa though.
The Tehachapi Pass (west from the city of Mohave following California 58) was an impressive wind farm area 35 years ago - I don't want to even think about how crowded it is NOW with windmills.

Oregon has lots of cloudy days pretty much anywhere in the state, not good for solar.
They DO seem to have some fairly strong government support for "renewable" energy, but the northern part of Oregon also gets SOME Columbia River hydropower and probably has lowish electric rates.

The parts of Washington State that have few cloudy days are also where most of the VERY VERY low cost hydropower is at, not much point to trying to go solar here.

CA is also VERY VERY high "on the grid" electrical rates pretty much anywhere in the state (mostly the highest in the US outside of HI), which would make alternative sources like solar and wind a lot more competative than most areas.
I believe most of CA also has some pretty hefty government support for solar and wind, but not sure if that applies to small-scale folks or just to large utility companies.

Zec baby

1.46 btc per month

power used 3600 watts per hour or 87 kwatts per day----------  say 8.70 usd per day in power

you need 92.3 th in s-9's  to earn 1.46 btc per month

So  that would be 7 s-9's using 1300 watt or 9100 watts per hour or 218.4 kwatts a day   say 21.84 usd per day in power

My gpu setup could be made for  8 k

7 s-9's = 11k once you include psu's

gpus earn 1.46 btc

s-9s earning 1.46 btc

So gpus  are

 1) 80% the cost to build for 1.46 btc a month
 2) 39.5% the power for 1.46 btc a month

Gpus are sold inside your country no import issues
Gpus have decent warranties.

I hope this lasts until 2018.

I know you keep saying a long list of companies that can simply pump ZEC  every once in a while to boost sales do you know the market cap on ZEC?

MARKET CAP IS WELL UNDER 80 MILLION!

Look at cap 64 million Look at volume 25 million

Serious  price support at the moment.

This fits my  list of pc parts company idea very well.

Also look at small amount of coins 898,000

All these factors allow  the major parts companies to  boost the coins price with ease which encourages us to buy gear to mine.
It also directly attacks BTC  asic builders like bitmaintech.
This a Very interesting development in the cryptocoin world
which I have been pointing out for about a year that this could happen.

What makes for interest is that  if a coin like ZEC or ETH fails due to a hack.
A new al-gore-rythm should pop up to replace it. SINCE pc parts companies would all benefit

Thanks Phil for the "beta" info. I must have been blind... new to SM ...
Unfortunately, it didnt solve my issue.

What is weirg is I had 4mh for eth mining on two gpus (rx470). So as I had no luck with "beta" feature, I just tried to switch to SM Zec mining.
The two gpus are now arround 50h instead of 250+ expected...

Could it be SM not accepting the custom bios ? or anything ele I could check ?
The GPUs were working without trouble with windows.

Im in Oregon near the capital.

Solar is completely useless here.  For 1/2 the year we have 6/7 days per week of dark grey rain then spring and summer the sun makes a comeback.  We are on Portland electric and they are a for profit company the rates come out to about 12 cent kw no matter the time of year.  Once you cross the river then you can get on the co-op power and they charge 7 cents k/w.
