How big of a job is it to do the work to PSJ? I know nothing about programming, but PSJ has been treating me real well over here, and I would contribute some btc towards it. What kind of pricetag do you think the work holds? Maybe we can scrape together the coin to get shads on it.

The current status of nrolltime and noncerange  is that it's partly implemented and has been that way for quite a while.  I never really made it a priority for a couple of reasons.  1/ it wasn't really an agreed standard and at the time I first looked at it few miners supported it 2/ it involved some non-trivial overhead that didn't have a payoff until the majority of miners supported. 3/ it was below the threshold of 'needed'.  i.e. miners not being able to get work fast enough shouldn't be happening.

That last statement probably sounds a bit bold in the face of the above evidence however I believe in this case nrolltime would simply be serving to mask another problem.  BT has already said he's got maxed CPU load which indicates another problem with PSJ and would explain the slow getwork responses.  Given what's been proven elsewhere with minimal CPU load I'd say it's some obscure config issue and I'll work with BT to find out what that is ASAP.

Having said that I'm not writing off rolllntime and noncerange, it does introduce efficiencies and now that it's more widely supported the upside probably exceeds the downside.  But I think the time when it's absence is going to be problem for miners is quite a way off so I'm not in a hurry while there's more pressing issues to deal with.

If my take on it is wrong and ppl really do want it treated as a priority then by all means make some noise about it.

I think folks need to understand that the pool is closing in on 1 TH which makes it 4th biggest pool out there.  So of course there's load issues.  And you know what?  BT has done a kick ass job getting things to where they are already.  All the time paying money out of pocket or just barely breaking even just to keep the server(s) working.  You want better performance, well, put your money where your mouth is.  

Other than a few day bump in donations a week back, just about the entire time I've been with the pool the weighted donation average has hovered around .5%.  That's ridiculous if you ask me.  I don't want to sound like a jerk, but c'mon already, give BT some motivation to work on the pool or add new hardware as needed.  Bump your donations to a percent or two.

This pool rules all other pools out there. Period. As for person getting queue waiting with pheonix, Switch to CGMiner 2.0 +, its a far more efficent miner and ALOT more configuarable (multiple pools if 1 goes down for example).

I suppose I could start logging output from mining on ars, but from glancing at the screen here and there I haven't actually seen idles.  I have server2 as my main and the regular server as my first failover.  The balance on my second failover is very small(in the last 24 hrs a whopping 0.00049btc has been credited to it) so it's pretty rare that I am not able to get work from ars.

Ok ya'll. BT has got the entire pool down to .57% stales because of his work to get poolserverj up and running on both servers. If nothing else, put your donation % at your normal rate + the % he is saving you on stales by getting the new server technology up and running!

And obviously that couldn't be done without shadders writing PoolServerJ to begin with.

Therefore, I propose the following.

The last full UTC day (October 3rd), 2.85 BTC were donated on ArsBitcoin.  This is about what it costs to run ArsBitcoin on a daily basis (perhaps a tiny bit less) with the current exchange rates and server setup.

Any donations over 2.85 BTC per day, through Oct 7th (UTC) will be sent to shadders to help support his PoolServerJ efforts.

So, that is about 3.5 days to increase your donations and help him out!

As an example, lets say Oct 4th ends and the total donations come out to be 3.5 BTC.  That means I would send 3.5 - 2.85 =  0.65 BTC to shadders for the day, along with the excess for the next 3 days as well.

Oh, and October 8th is my birthday.  Just saying... you could increase your donations that day too or something

I should give that a try but I just haven't got around to it. Anyway, after I dug a bit more I found that even pings to google were losing 50% of the packets so I think it wasn't the server or my end, just some backbone issues somewhere. It's seems to be stable again now.
