Even when  Fabregas was at the peak of his career, he wasn't that kind of player that produces so much energy to drive a club. That physical and mental force is not there. He is just like Ozil. They play good football and make decent and visionary passes, but they are not team drivers. At 35, Fabregas is going to chill off to ensure that he doesn't stay out of salary till he retires.

Fabregas has always been a great midfielder and I always thought that he can be an essential part of any team. But I also agree that he was not someone who can be effective in a game-changing way for any team. I think he is going to end his career soon. He doesn't want to leave Barcelona because of his current high wage + Barcelona owes him money for the pay cut that he accepted to be cut during covid-19 and be reimbursed later but Barcelona announced to him that they will not pay him that money if he leaves the club and ironically they are calling him to left and others saying that he won't leave. It is a real mess in Barca, it is like they found an oil rig down there and infinite money to spend!
