This seems to be a tutorial for testnet?! I am not that technical but my question was: is installing the node software the same as having a desktop wallet or is having a desktop wallet something else?

I cleaned up the whole 10mio "discussion" and as such have deleted lots of the answers too, as it doesn't make any sense to delete only his messages and your quotes of him are still filling the thread.

Thanks! np It's just a pain in the ass cause you have to delete post by post.

To make it short: Yo need the web client. From link: (".... XEL node helping the network as relay node even if not forging so e very node with opened port (7874) is helping the network!" ....." I assume you know how to buy and how to login trough SSH to that server..... I'll not explain this......")

Lol, some newbie FUDster just left a message here and then quickly deleted it, saying that our devs are a shame because they still haven't released any wallet. It's so much fun to read these guys He didn't delete it.....

If configured correctly it will automatically delete posts that contain certain words, or have certain authors. https://github.com/OrdinaryDude/XXLTerminateMaybe it helps ;-)

Having dealt with these kind of losers before in many threads it seems the one thing they do have is time (probably because they have no job or life beyond their computer or their phone). Some way of speeding up the process would help.

No, i dont want a webwallet (assuming that you mean the online wallet at https://wallet.elasticexplorer.org). I want a desktop wallet, because i think it is more reliable/secure. Just like you have a bitcoin qt wallet. So i see only one alternative and that is to install the node software. Maybe because of my limited knowledge i associate 'node software' as being more then just a desktop wallet. A node has other functions too then just being a wallet. But then again i may be wrong.

You don't need all the node software...I'm not running a node. You just need Java 8....clone the github...compile using ./compile.sh....then run using ./run.sh All the details are in the various links at https://talk.elasticexplorer.org/

Is this XEL simmiliar to GOLEM project or is it different? And if yes what are the foundamental differences if any? Could anyone answer in short words?
Bump Golem, at the moment, has fixed usecases such as image rendering. So if you want to render your image, you can use Golem. If you get the brilliant idea, that you want to factor a large number or solve the statisfiability problem of a large CNF formula, you obviously can't use Golem. Elastic works differently. You do not have fixed usecases but instead a powerful programming language, which let's you create your own use case. So to coming back to the example from above: you want to factor a large number or solve the statisfiability problem of a large CNF formula? You just go ahead, code your algorithm in ElasticPL and let it be solved by the crowd.

Awesome work, guys! An important day for Elastic. There will be some noise the following days, wind finally blowing in the sails. Just keep calm and stay on course. This is a big project, don't lose too much time on the price now; if we execute right, it could go beyond your wildest dreams. So don't make the mistake to to sell yourself cheap. You've probably read the story of the guy who bought bitcoin at 1$ and sold it at 10$. Don't be that guy. Focus on the important things: brilliant devs, real product, great community, years of hard work put into it. And remember, this is only the beginning. Only day 1. There's a tremendous potential to what this project can become. Ever wondered what it would have been like to discover bitcoin very early on, well, take good look at Elastic. See you on the other side Very well said! Patience is the key to success, not only in the cryptoworld, but in any sphere of life. This is a very promising project.
