darn it, only been mining since Sunday on my 5850 (on Slush's pool) and found my first block this morning.. And got one of the lowest payouts I've ever gotten on the pool hehe 0.028 BTC!

Oh well, I'm sure it evens out, but it would be great to have 50 BTC's right now Smiley

I had earned a total of 46 BTC when I found my first block. In the long run, yes, it all evens out. Smiley

With difficulty rapidly on the increase, does it really for small time miners?   I think that is why the pools are so alluring.

That's actually a good point. Were I more awake, we could do some math on the topic. Tongue I do know that I SS'ed it and posted it all over the place...I was very happy. Just got it a few days ago. Smiley

How much under EV should I expect to get on your pool? Or, slush, maybe you could help me figure out how much to expect I will be under EV? Is it 2% under? More? Less? If it depends on my setup, I would be mining 24/7 with multiple AMD 5xxx GPU's

thoughts?

~2% below solo EV.

~2% below solo EV.

I think EV is expected value, meaning if he were solo mining and hit the average directly, that would be EV, so he is wondering how much he is potentially losing by joining the pool (in return for joining the pool and reducing variance).

Interpret correctly?

I think something is wrong on the pool...

We have multiple "0" blocks.
Payouts aren't going out
Reward calculation for pool block 4258 I got jacked up.. there is no way with my hashrate I should be getting almost 1 btc over a 43 minute block.

I am seeing weird stuff on my miner. Maybe it is phoenix but the current block keeps swtiching, current block 122505 then a second later it is 122510 then back to 505. Socket errors.. time outs.. all kinds of stuff

Yeah I checked my miners, looks like lots of "job finished..."
way more than normal invalid shares.

Yeah something is up..

My guess is never seeing how him using the score based system is his method of preventing cheat.

Too many RPC connection errors today.
But it is not happening with other pools.
Also miner becomes idle many times with no job.
using poclbm latest, which gives no problem in other pools.

Shush seems to be overwhemed these days and struggling to keep things under control little enough enhance the service.  Why is that?  Bitcoin Watch is showing slush as almost non-existent at the moment.  Seriously, there are other pools to consider.  No offense Slush, but what the heck is going on?

Everyone appears to be jumping ship to Deepbit.  I'm sure Slush will fix it soon and all will be well again but until then I'll jump too.

In light of the current circumstances, I think it is fair to indicate an alternative.  I think BTCMine is probably the most analogous alternative to slush and they have long polling as an added bonus.  There is a delay on the early payouts due to their closely monitoring of bot activity (which is a good thing).  But they use the same score based system to prevent pool jumping.  I liked them a lot.  The pool needs to expand in my opinion.  We need at least three major pools in play, not one or two behemoths.

i switched to BTCmine since there was no payout! there isnt even a payout button on the user page. i am getting a little bit suspicious now...
EDIT: upon further investigation i suspect serious botnet activity on the pool
48 Ghash/s with 2000 connected workers indicates a whole lot of slow miners as only a botnet would have...

actually, my CPU miners are connecting and losing connection every so often, my poclbm(opencl miner) isn't connecting at all(once in a while it'll work) and that where the real power is. No, it's not a botnet. The system doesn't work on a payout button system, it works on a "if my miners make XX amount, then send it".

The pool rate is based on 30min average, it is NOT a 'right now' number. since clients are connecting and disconnecting, it's expected to drop to a low number.

Slush's pool is and has always been legit.
