Anybody know what time zone slush is?  Trying to figure out if it's worth it to change to solo.

Well I generated my first 50 4 hours after leaving the pool Smiley

Might go back to the pool later when a 5870 slows down but right now depending on what you got I think solo isn't such a bad choice.

Please forgive my ignorance, but is it possible for cheater to found winning hash, report it to stand-alone client to make a block and report "sorry, nothing found" to the pool? In that case cheating miner will get clear 50BTC plus some credits from the pool.

I might be wrong but I think the only one who would be able to do that is the pool operator slush.  I truly believe it is an error in the server and will be remedied when slush wakes up.

I have a quick question.

If I stop or crash for whatever reason and start again, does that reset the time I have devoted or is it equivalent to just picking up where I left off?

For instance, say I'm 3 days in. If I stop, do I lose those 3 days I've been working at and start all over or do I just pick up off from the 3 days?

I think it depends on if you do so right before or after a score reset and when the generation takes place but I'm probably wrong.

I should add this is regarding solo, but should also apply if I'm in a pool as well.

Oh then the answer is much easier, yeah you lose those 3 days but it doesn't matter because it doesn't work like that.  it's basically if you play the lottery 10 times every day one day you forget.  Next day you buy 10 again your money you devoted to other days you lose but it doesn't matter because the odds are the same that you will win the lottery anyway.  In other words every single hash is a chance to win the generation starting or stopping should not effect your chances unless the difficulty changes in that time.

Oh I see. So every time I hash its just like I'm playing. If I stop for whatever reason I'm just not participating.

The longer I play the better my chance! Or the better my equipment the faster I am playing?

It all makes sense, thanks Smiley

Saving is not needed when you mine solo.
Imagine this as buying lottery tickets in a shop. There is no difference if you continue buying for 10 hours without stops or do this for 5 hours, then leave the shop and come back next day for another 5 hours.

For instance, say I'm 3 days in. If I stop, do I lose those 3 days I've been working at and start all over or do I just pick up off from the 3 days?
Those first 3 days are ALREADY lost because you didn't find anything, so you can't lost them again.

When mining in slush's pool you can lose about 20-40 mins of work if you disconnect in the middle of a round.
In other pools you won't lose anything except for the one share that wasn't sent by you yet.

OMFG! a block was found!

Edit: Hopefully Slush will say if it was a server error or INCREDIBLY bad luck lol

Edit 2: Seems [Tycho] likes the lottery example as well

I'll take a stab at this.
From what I understand, no.  When blocks are generated, the first transactions is the creator paying himself 50 BTC, so blocks being generated by different users (different addresses) will have different "correct" nonce values.  The hashes that are generated for the pool are generated for the pool's address, so even if someone found the block and submitted it to the network without sending it to the pool, the pool would still get the coins.  The pool checks the hashes so you can either mine for the pool or yourself and the hashes generated for each are not interchangeable.

Does anyone think it's because there are so many invalid or stale hashes that's making us so unlucky? Although if I'm correct that shouldn't make a difference it should only lower amount of shares.  Either way it seems this block is slow as well already up to about 85% chance we should have found it still think this isn't just "bad luck" but a problem.

And my daily reward for 24 hours fell from 10 to 5.5 bitcoins with 250mhash / s. I do not like this system. You say "Bad luck"? Go to hell -_-

Hi, I just wake up. The such long round looks very strange, but after deep system analysis I didn't find any major problem. As few users disconnected (probably because such long round), pool is currently in very good condition.

Yes, time to time, there were some peaks which leads to some network timeouts (I'm still trying to resolve this), but as number of found shares in round is rising, it should not affect the pool performance in way of such unlucky rounds. So demonofelru is right.

Woke up to see that my miners had been working all last evening on the same 10 hour block. Amazing! And my payout is well below the average for me, at 0.00819707 BTC. I assumed as I was reading that I would have a much better payout because the round had lasted so long, and others dropped out, so my shares would be worth more. Did anybody else have an odd payout for block 109071, either better or worse than normal?
