It will be over millions one day... Maybe in a year or ten... Depends on how governments accept BTC as currency.

Yes $1000 next before end 2013 and then first quarter 2014 will head towards the $3000 mark because of all the new ASIC industrial miners coming online then.
Here is a quote from one of the mines coming online in February:
A Hong Kong-based investment company is ramping up an ASIC mining hardware business that will drop four Petahashes (PH/s) of computing power onto the network by the end of March.
Massive Luck Investments, domiciled in Hong Kong but registered in the British Virgin Islands, has taken a 50% stake in Swiss mining hardware manufacturer Bitmine, (formerly Exion Networks), which has been designing Avalon-based mining hardware. The new venture spans ASIC hardware sales to individual customers, hosted mining, and its own private mining pool.
These coins will be mined and suppliers & shareholders will be paid in BTC but then converted to FIAT to pay some bills. They would need to exchange it somewhere for FIAT and then cash out. Going to be an awesome time 2014 for BTC!

$1000 seems extremely likely. Probably even further. The market makers are forced to take huge spreads to capture the volatility at the the moment. Perhaps to reduce volatility the number of exchanges need to grow. MT GOX is the most reputed but as time passes and more competition comes in perhaps there would be price competition.
If BTC does grow beyond $1000 then mBTC and μBTC (probably even Satoshis) will become the standard of common everyday good trades. BTC would only remain a millionaire or billionaire!
Bitcoin surged more than 40 per cent to a new high of $US750 ($800) as US agencies told a Senate committee the virtual currency is a "legal means of exchange".

Bitcoin will surely hit high 10000s or collapse completely. Just think about it. If Bitcoin ever become even semi-major player among world currencies, market will be measured in trillions. And as hard limit is 21000000 BC units, math is really simple. If estimates of world's transactional currency markets are at about $60 trillion, and bitcoin manages to take 1% of that share (and in the long run it have potential for much more), with all 21 million mined and all actually used for transactions at all time, maths says that one would be priced at about $30000. And if you account that all 21m will unlikely ever be mined, let alone all used for running transactions, price could very well be much higher. But it could take years or decades to reach this. Nonetheless, exciting times are upon us

My thoughts exactly. It's an "almost-all"-or-nothing business. Something to think about is whether there's some inherent problem with Bitcoin that a new "something" would be able to "fix." It seems to me that only things that can "kill" Bitcoin at this point are either some sort of competitor, a worldwide civilization/ecological catastrophe or a 1984-like scenario where general-purpose computing and/or decentralized economies are outlawed or somesuch. Technically, Litecoin is a tad superior, but it doesn't look like a Bitcoin killer. Looking forward to the Hexa-hash-per-second Bitcoin network in early 2014... it will be fun to check out what that does to the price. -- Obey

Wouldn't surprise me to see the price of Bitcoin break the $2000 barrier before year end.

I am a big supporter of btc, but in my opinion this can only really happen the day that you can start paying for goods and services with bitcoins. All it is now is market speculation that survives because more and more people are joining bitcoin, driving the prices up and allowing merchants to continue to operate.

it wont pass 100 USD....oh wait, we already reached it The thread is talking about $1000. Im all for it hitting 100USD, but using the logic "it wont pass 100USD...oh wait it did", means absolutely nothing for future values. Thats like saying any stock that has hit over 100USD must surely hit 1000USD. Dont work that way, if it did all of us would be rich long before the bitcoins existed. i guess you dont understand bitcoin yet when you believe, that the price will never hit 1000 USD... quotet myself here. i have a magic crystal ball
