primecoind generates a core dump immediately on startup for me ************************ EXCEPTION: N5boost21thread_resource_errorE boost::thread_resource_error primecoin in AppInit( Bitcoin and Litecoin run fine on the same machine. Running CentOS. RAM shouldn't be an issue - have 64GB. The weird thing is it ran fine once - had it going for 3 days straight. I restarted the process and now getting that error. Things I've tried: Completely deleting .primecoin folder Recompiling, I'm using original client now and not the HP version Edit: Solved, had to increase virtual memory ulimit.

Those are other peoples transactions that you are processing. If you find a block you will see "proof of work found" or something like that.

A lot of press for such a new coin! https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=259572.0A Week-Old Cryptocurrency Wants to Capture the Wasted Energy of Bitcoin's Algorithmhttp://motherboard.vice.com/blog/a-week-old-cryptocurrency-wants-to-capture-the-wasted-energy-of-bitcoins-algorithmSome of us are taken with bitcoin. We have learned its basics, and are more or less versed with its socioeconomic implications. We get it.
But when an acquaintance of mine told me recently that he's trading in more than 30 bitcoin alternatives, or altcoins, my mind was blown. Acting as a sort of crypto-FOREX trader, he's the first to answer one of my go-to questions on bitcoin: What would you do to make it better?
Cryptocurrencies Could Crunch Meaningful Code Instead Of Burning Electricityhttp://www.fastcolabs.com/3014026/cryptocurrencies-could-crunch-meaningful-code-instead-of-burning-electricityThe work is to avoid the value conundrum elegantly teased by Douglas Adams in The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, at the point in the story where shipwrecked aliens adopt the leaf as currency: "We have, of course, all become immensely rich...But we have also run into a small inflation problem on account of the high level of leaf availability, which means that, I gather, the current going rate has something like three deciduous forests buying one ship’s peanut." A New Digital Currency Concept Solves One Of Bitcoin's Most Obvious Flawshttp://www.businessinsider.com/primecoin-2013-7Primecoin would have a long way to catch up with Bitcoin, but things move fast in the crypto-currency world, so anything could happen.
Virtual currency speculators shut down cloudhttp://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/07/16/digitalocean_primecoin_cloud_problems/So when the currency launched on July 7, many speculators who had seen Bitcoin's rise to over $100 per coin were keen to find clouds to use to mine the currency. One person on the Primecoin forum posted a walkthrough plus a link to a discount voucher for spinning up DigitalOcean instances on July 9, and things snowballed from there. New currency Primecoin searches for prime numbers as proof of workhttp://www.coindesk.com/new-currency-primecoin-searches-for-prime-numbers-as-proof-of-work/Prime numbers are a valuable mathematical resource. Prime numbers are numbers that are only divisible by one or themselves, and no other numbers. This is useful in encrypting internet traffic (e.g. SSL or TLS), because while it’s easy to multiply two prime numbers together, to create a “public key”, it’s difficult to run the calculation in reverse. I.e. It’s a difficult computation to take an exceptionally large number and find its “prime factors”.

Anyone got this working on FreeBSD? There's a port for Bitcoin but I couldn't get it to compile by modifying the Bitcoin port for Primecoin.

Is this really needed? Go make a Primecoin forum and post stuff like that on there. This just adds more cluttering to this subforum that already has a unbelievable high amount of XPM threads made each day.

Bodes well for Primecoin that after so little time it's getting media exposure already. Feel free to post another summary like that in the future.

Anyone know the best way to merge or add a single wallet for multiple servers ubu 12.04 or 13.04? If so, what steps should I take exactly?
and would this help in mining power together as 1 main pps machine instead of individually each server having its own wallet?

What's the total cap on number of Primecoins, or is there one?

What's the total cap on number of Primecoins, or is there one?
The end of the coindesk article states this: The group behind the peer-to-peer cryptocurrency, PPCoin, think it has the answer with Primecoin. There is a detailed paper [PDF] on the website, explaining how the currency works. It shows that the proof of work in finding prime numbers is computationally efficient. However, this is on the proviso that the prime numbers are not “record-breakingly large”.
This is where there is a question mark over the value as it isn’t made clear whether there are still prime numbers, other than those that break the records, to be discovered.

I'm trying to send an XPM amount equivalent to one of the block I mined, but the wallet want's a fee for it ! The block should be old enough, and it is not fragmented since I mined it ! And only one recipient, so the size should be ok. So why do I have to pay the transaction fee (ok it's nothing, but i want to know why)? May be the answer is when you mine you get : block reward + transaction fee reward = fragmented minted block ? Can we check the fragmentation with primecoin ? How ?

Hopefully the difficulty will go down as miners switch off. I have finally given up after getting nothing for 5 days.
