Unfortunately, there isn't a "safe" coin to invest in, as each crypto currency is backed with nominal values but without anything else. Therefore, prior to investing, get familiarized with the cryptofield, as there are many ambiguities.
To answer your question, for a long-term investment, LTC, IOTA, and ETH are good examples, in my opinion. All of them are significantly credible (as credible as an altcoin could be...), they have a huge potential and generate high return on income (provided that you do your research properly).
In case you are interested, I'd also recommend you to try out Initial Coin Offerings. Unlike the former field, this unconventional method focuses on the short-run, however, it can also generate large amounts of profit if done with caution. For example, there are many great ongoing and upcoming projects (such as CTD, Bountie, Gatcoin, ATF, etc.) For you to do the right thing, read a lot and be eager to learn new things. For example, I've been considering investing in two projects: RestartEnergy and Giftz.io. The former ICO's token should be able to virtually store electrical energy. Giftz, on the other hand, will change the future of how we all earn cash-back & loyalty rewards is in the pipeline. Any thoughts on these two sleeping giants?

12000 $ is a very serious amount for investing, so probably still it is worth to seriously approach the matter and not to listen to our opinion, because we can simply praise those coins and projects in which we went in small amounts.

Since the market is down right now, it gives you time to do some research instead of pounding some random coins that members shoot your way. If the $12K is burning a hole in your pocket, hit up BTC/BCH/XRP/ETH/OMG/NEO. Good luck!

Too bad, there is no safety here so there so safe coin, even bitcoin. Is there a risk if you lose it all, yes, risk has always been there and the worst is you may lose all what you invested. Cryptocurrencies are very volatile. Litecoin is a good choice, please also consider Etherium and other cheap promising altcoins.

Just put some money on NEO, ETH, and STELLAR, they are going to give you huge returns during this year, and yes, do not forget to put some money on bitcoin ,of course.
You can easily make some profit in a long term with those coins, more than x5 guaranteed.

I'd go for Ethereum. I would put the biggest part of my investment into it. Then split the other part between Litecoin, IOTA and probably 1-2 ICOs. But that's only my opininon, do your research and good luck Wink

I recommend investing in a coin that has shown signs of life in the last 2 months  Cheesy  Litecoin is moving really slow, and i feel it won't budge anymore, just like Bitcoin.
I would look at coins like Ethereum, Ripple, Monero or Stellar for long term.

First I want to say that there is a risk in any cryptocurrency.
I would advise you to invest something like this:
50% in Bitcoin;
25% in Litecoin;
25% in the Ethereum.
I think that it is necessary to make long-term investments in these crypto-currencies.
I don`t understand why people still believe in Litecoin and Ethereum Classic. I think their time is pass. There are a lot of more interesting and stable projects. For example I think better to change 25% litecoin to NEO or XEM.

I think there are lots of coins that are safe for investment, and you can continue to increase the price of your coin.

put TRX and ICX on your list for long term Cheesy

Hi joann15,

could you please provide some more information about you suggestion of TRX?
Seems good but decentralized web sites would be a big change.

TRX has lost 75% of its value in the span of 10 days, it went from 25 cents to (now) 6 cents. It is being heavily manipulated (99.999% of all Tron coins are owned by the Chinese) and they have no product whatsoever. No one in their right mind would invest in _nothing_ for the long term. There are many projects with published scientific papers, actual products, actual roadmaps with real outputs. None can be said about Tron.

That TRX dude, Justin, is so clueless that he didn't even verify his Twitter account  Cheesy

If you're new to crypto and have that much money to invest, then invest carefully and i suggest a secure but long term investments. Consider Ethereum or Bitcoin for starters.

I would invest 50/50 into Bitcoin and Ethereum, as they are less volatile than rest of the coins.

Personally, i think Rise has a potential although lisk and rise have similarities but I still go for rise.. I like the platform and base on my research. Reasons to invest in RISE: Blockchain Incubator, Mobile app store, fast and easy to use wallet, staking, low market cap. All in all RISE is great!!! Also, Don't miss this! Rise Snapshot is 31. January + airdrop to follow in March. You should be accumulating in dips (like right now) 👌
