Yes, a very small chance to lose money but a very small chance to make a huge profit too..

I would prefer to diversify on other low cap coins who might give me much more profit than the biggest ones.
Well, why not, a very good idea. In cases of investment in Litecoin, an Ethereum, Bitcoin - you have a very small chance to lose your money. I can not guarantee that it does not exist at all, it is, but very small. So I think for a start it would be the safest way to invest

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Litecoin is a good choice but the more you'll invest, the more you might loose.

$12000 is a big amount to invest but I would suggest you to invest 2000$ each in six coins so that your investment will be diversified. First of all do yourself some research of top 50 coins from coinmarketcap list then decide what is best for you. I have some good coins list you can check. You can consider  DeepOnion, Bitcoin, Waves, Stratis and Xmr. There is always risk in any investment. Invest that you can afford to loose.

The guy who started this thread is not just rich enough he is a risky fan of cryptocurrencies. I am voting all the time for diversification of investments. And here my advice is to invest in Ethereum, Bitcoin and Litecoin.

Bitcoin,Etherium and Tron are the best long-term investment to feel safe and confident. If I had 12k $ I would make my portfolio like this 50%-bitcoin,30-Etherium,10% Tron and 10 % Ripple.

$ 12,000 is a huge amount, can earn about 12 ETH, or 1 BTC or 8 BCH. I advise you to divide it into eth and bch which I think has good prospects for the long term,

Never put eggs in one basket. It is best to choose a few coins that have been carefully studied and are confident of their growth. Even better - in undervaluation. I see such XRB (instant transactions without commissions), OMNI (micro ether) and a couple more. In fact, they are many

If you are looking for a "safe" coin, then your primary choice (Litecoin) is a good one. It has been around for quite some time now, and LTC is having a small but loyal user-base. And it has held its place despite the emergence of the new crypto-currencies.

If I have that kind of money i would invest on Bitcoin and Ethereum. They are my top 2 coins and i believe that investing on these coins is a sure profit. But there are some good alternative coins that you can invest. Do some research and be smart on which coin you would like to invest. Because you could lose all your money.

If you are a beginner don't risk it all in one coin, maybe distribute it other than put it all in Litecoin although Litecoin is good but try to distribute it to minimize the risk, other coin I suggest is Bitcoin and Ethereum this are known coin and a good investment.

Also why don't you try and invest in ICO join us in Daneel project it is an AI and it is created to help you in your investment journey in cryptocurrency, especially to those beginners like you who feel overwhelmed about all the information available.

"Safe" is a word which makes little sense in the cryptocurrency world. You need to weigh your options and do ample research about the currency. Understanding what exactly cryptocurrency is will help you go a long way in getting returns on your investments. Going through a companies white paper is a good option.

I would advise you to invest this amount of money (12 000$) as follows:

1. 6000 $ in BTC
2. 4000 $ in ETH
3. 1000 $ in NEO
4.  1000 $ in XEM

This is a reliable low-risk and long-term investment.

You need to know first what is the basic in investing. You cannot get back your money when you invest it in the wrong ICO. Do search before do invest. Let yourself be more attentive to the wisdom. Look the members, and advisors of the ICO before you enter.

Numerous people have claimed 90% of coins want survive long term.
Crypto is extremely risky, one could argue worse than gambling. At least at gambling you know the odds.

I'd put that 12k on NEO alone if I have the that amount. Among those that you list its NEO that is cheaper but have the potential for you to gain 5x this 2018 alone. 6k for BTC will just be a fraction of a coin but with NEO you have the good amount of coins. NEM might be the cheapest but it might take more years for them to finally be moving up.

Anyway, it isn't reliable to keep all investments in any one coin. So I will advise to divide investments. Options can be much.
