Such questions are very difficult to give competent advice. He who advises - always runs the risk of his reputation. To do this, you need to be a good specialist and be confident in your words.

I think that in your case  do not need to rush with such decisions. The first thing you need to understand is that this is not a freebie. This market is very dangerous, we must take all risks into account. And it is better to invest not in one currency, but to collect a cryptocurrency portfolio of 5 coins

I think you can invest $ 8000 for LYMPO, and the rest you can invest for Ripple or ETH. Coin coins have a good future and will continue to increase.
I would not call the ripple a promising project. It was promising two years ago, when it cost one hundred-two hundred times less than now. And now he is a very risky and very much inflated asset.

A very unfortunate time the author chose to invest (December 15, 2017). Bitcoin and the cryptomarket reached their maximum on December 19. Then there was a sharp decline and loss. Now the situation is not much better, the market is in decline, it is impossible to invest for a long period.

It depends on your risk tolerance, and investing in bitcoin is the best way to make a profit. If you can take a risk of losing $12000, you can choose ICO or invest in some new coins.

It seems to me that that person only needs to sympathize, because the near future, at least until the end of 2018, there will be no market stabilization. Of course it is very unfortunate that people invested their money at such expensive prices.

12000 usd is an adequate sum to starting invest in crypto.
My advise is to form diversified portfolio:
Bitcoin-30%;
Ethereum-25%;
EOS-15%;
Wanchain-10%;
Fusion-10;
NKN-10%.

And yes, in my opinion, invest in Litecoin is not an excellent choice.

Do not try to invest in tokens. Look at the promising blockchain such as: eos, fusion, pchain, icon, wanchain.
To be honest, I have not heard anything about half of these projects, probably worth getting to know them better. Of all the projects that we listed and heard only one thing - the EOS project.

Which is a safe coin to invest in the long term?
How long should I hold it?

Is there a risk that I might lose it all?

I am a noob in cryptocurrencies. Help.  Huh

I was thinking Litecoin, is it a good idea?

There are risk in everything. Even you can die just by walking in the street.. In my opinion, don't invest in something you don't understand.. because if you do it would be like a gamble. Listening to these people would just hurt you even more if the coins you picked loss values. It would be better if you learn more about crypto first, after a while I believe you will be able to pick or trust some projects. Goodluck!

Litecoin may be a pretty good Altcoin, but I think for now, this Altcoin is not the first choice.
With 12k you should buy more than two Altcoin to offset the risk factors you are worried about.

You can consider the comments we make but first of all you need to search and review the project before making investment.

With $ 12k, now you can buy one Bitcoin and still leave enough to buy Altcoin.
And it looks like a combination of both will make your portfolio safe for the next few years.

$ 12000 is an ideal capital to start with, and you will not find it difficult to find coins.
Of course there are risks, but probably will not lose them all. My advice is divide into 4-6 Altcoin and hold it for at least the next two years.

The more money we invest the more stable portfolio we should choose. So you invest big money just buy top-10 or top-20 coins concerning its market capitalization

Preparedness in accepting risk, and capital strength is essential to start investing in this field. But do not think that you will be able to generate instant profits. Some people say that the more famous a coin, the more secure it will be. So I think you can start by selecting some of the coins around top20.

As of the moment if I have that $12,000, I will hold it first then wait for the reversal of the trend. Almost all of the crypts are on the downtrend position maybe because many investor was seen last December. January was profit taking and it very volatile this month.

This amount I recommend to invest in several projects. One of them select EOS, just wait until they have completed the correction. The other part is investing in less expensive altcoins. Smiley Smiley

This is a good amount for investment! I would buy ETH, EOS, and some promising altcoins.  I liked the REMME project. The token has been traded on the stock exchanges. REMME implements the protection of your company data or people from cyber-attacks. This is the essence and concept of the project
