Yes, Ethereum will, probably, be a future #1 cryptocurrency in 2018–2019, it is simply better than Bitcoin and provides much better use cases. Bitcoin’s purpose is to be the virtual currency of the internet, and it uses the blockchain to do this. Ethereum focuses on the bigger problem.

I don't think it will happen ever. I think there are no other coins which have the as much potential to overcome the bitcoin. Bitcoin will always stay remain top in the position. And Ethereum will never become next Bitcoin.

Ethereum isn't trying to be the next bitcoin, it's a development platform and virtual operating something, it's cryptocurrency utility is just one tiny fraction of its potential. The answer therefore must be no, because they're looking to achieve different goals as cryptocurrency.

I generally believe that Ethereum and bitcoin do not see each other as competitors, everyone has their own goals, plans and prospects. You don't have to ask such questions.

I agree with your statement that ethereum will have good potential in the future because of its versatility and intelligence. we know that ethereum is used as an exchange service in various prize campaigns. and that might make ethereum known to many people. if at this time bitcoin is still the number one coin, I'm sure ethereum is in number two under bitcoin. indeed now the ethereum price has dropped dramatically, but I am still confident with ethereum and it continues to last until prices recover. and surely there will be more enthusiasts of ethereum and buying ethereum when prices are as low as they are today.
