Put the mining farms into a warehouse surrounded by fertile land. Plant trees and other vegetation to provide a haven for wildlife. There you go - Bitcoin mining is good for the environment.

The more simple solution is either to solve the finite resource issue and find a way to have renewable energy, or alternatively to move bitcoin away from a method which is so energy intensive, think ethereum's plans to move to POS.

Right now it's not as good as it could be because half the miners are situated in China, which uses a lot of coal to produce energy.  Now, there are alternatives that can be implemented to help reduce Bitcoins carbon footprint.

-Wind farms

Actually, your article just further proves my point, it states that BTC is x60 more efficient, even if it is probably not an objective source. You should take into account the huge waste of the whole system: office buildings, people using fuel to go to them, the immense waste of construction. Even if you were using renewable energy sources, you are using lot of energy that is not directly used to ensure the safety of the net.

A completely different thing is considering the process efficient in itself. I don´t picture BTC going PoS in any future, short or long term, since as today, forks are based on hashing power and the mines are not going to take the first step to self destruction.

I can see a good point in your statement mate, but you also have to consider those miners who operated at expensive and costly price of electricity during their transaction mining operations. IMO, bitcoin doesn't adversely affect the environment just the opposite. Bitcoin has provided evidence to us, that it can improve the economy of a person by means and the ability of each, not even a few people who become new millionaires because of it. i agree on the last two paragraphs you said above but i wont agree on the first part because eletctric consumption caused by mining is not only 3% or below . miner  are powerful types of hardware in order for them to be effective as much as possible and with that said , do you think they will only consume less electricity?   I guess not .
