Difficulty has risen from 8 to 17 within the last 12 hours or so, while the price has been slightly declining. Litecoin hashing power has not changed during the same time, so no influx of ASICs.
This is not normal.
Any thoughts about this?
Is it more likely some kind of attack or is it an individual with lots of hashing power, who wants to earn Hobonickels via Mining instead of buying?

Hmm good observation. PoW attacks are probably hard to accomplish on HBN. First of all PoS/PoW hybrid adds an extra layer of security. Also the PoW diff adjusts every block, so it isn't going to be as easy for someone to come hash out a lot of blocks quick.  Hard to know why such a quick and large rise in hash rate.

No attack(that I can see), just someone or pool with large hash rate coming on board.  Difficulty is adjusting prefectly to keep the 30sec PoW/PoS in line. They got a few quick ones at the beginning but not more then a few hundred hbn, before the diff adjusted correctly.

Ouch that price is getting too low.

This gives the opportunity to new investors to join in. I still think HBN is undervalued so at this price, it's a steal.

I believe 3 things happened almost simultaneously that affected the price in the downtrend.

1. HBN hits all time High of 50k (not taking into consideration the ~80k sat pump) made some people cash out at these levels
2. Tranz involvement in CAP made a lot of people jump on that train (because CAP is even more undervalued).
3. BTC rally up made some longterm investors cash out to enjoy BTC's new high price.

Nothing that affects the quality or reputation of the coin/community or long term potential. Purely markets natural movements (given, this one felt like a downhill rollercoaster)

At least this is how I see it!

Pretty much spot on, could still see a lower down-trend in the immediate short term but as soon as we hit bottom support(in around 1 week+) I predict a sharp up-trend/spike, as long as it corresponds with other factors in the coming weeks. This is also somewhat dependant on the stage of Cap development as well.

Awesome, look forward to seeing your finished work. Let us know if you have any technical questions that need to be clarified.

I cannot find any information on block halvings.  Does the block reward halve for HBN?

never. it will always be a hybrid PoW/PoS coin.

It started 5 HBN per block, still is, and will be.  What should happen is that PoS will take over simply because more coins will be available to stake, but nothing has been implemented to remove PoW.  hope this helps

Great work,

confirmations is 25 blocks for PoW/PoS minted block, 6 for a regular transaction

All time high was 55977 satoshis (if you don't take into consideration the small pump to 78800 satoshis) and the supply was about 4224050 HBN at that period

Also another thing you could fix is that HBN was actually cloned from bottlecaps - which is a clone of novacoin. Since bottlecaps had no original innovation beyond nova, it is probably fair to say it was cloned from nova.

HBN has always had the same PoW reward. The PoS has pretty much always been the same, at least after Tranz fixed the error in the code.  If you want to look around the block explorer try hbn.blockx.info
