on 7970 i use worksize 256 g 2 lowest memory possible, fastest engine clock that won't crash ,

I don't know if this has been covered before but I have found that for Tahiti based cards (280x 7850) the worksize should be set to 64 for best performance.   This gave me a nice 10% performance increase as previously I had been using 128 without realizing.  Older cards should probably leave it at the default 128.

Anyone have any other experiences to share?

Maybe this has already been covered somewhere, but what are your guys' current profitability for mining in the merged-mined Blake pool? How does it compare to your initial investment for mining equipment? Thanks!

I haven't really factored in mining equipment, but as for ongoing profitability ratio (gross returns per electric bill), Blake on FPGAs is better than anything I've come across. With my current electricity prices, the ratio is over 10, while it would be about 4 for Bitcoin on ASICs. While this depends on your local prices, it won't change the relative position between these.

(BTW, props on your choice of avatar -- not that I'd ever use a celebrity face myself Wink)

Well not exactly for buying but this has been 3 different rentals I have done.

ELT was not working on 3rd rental and UMO was added but it might give you a way to see a GH/s/HR to rough BTC per hr

Most of the time I'm either colse to ROI or slight profit. so even at slight loss it's worth the .0001 or .0002 BTC to get the data.

With 6 coins all with own dif and price at exchange this is only way to really see what is going on. It did seem to bring the price down on some rigs. And if some people still want to rent at a higher price well good for the rig owners. can use this to see if renting rig out makes sense as well.

I'm not sure how much of BTC i send goes to rig owner and how much to site.

thanks. good work. but you show results if to sell directly. It was more interesting to look if the person wants to invest in coins and buys them.

if I have .0156BTC to spend now should I buy coins direct or buy mining?

You are right I am showing only what happens if you want to spend btc to rent let it mine then cash in coins and see if I have more or less btc when done.

What I can try is if I spend btc to rent let it mine see how many of each coin I got. then see how much it would cost to buy that same number of each coin. Since the Sell price is higher  it would show you would have to spend more BTC to get same number of coins.

I think I would need to record sell price at start of mining and at end I try adding that to the next time I try renting again

add two positions - sell and buy coins at the end of the lease. range between the sell and buy at times 25-30%.

I've completed some more performance work on blake256.cl and updated my gist https://gist.github.com/Griffitsj/55349ccee17bbf87ffd5

This gives 1.3% speed improvement on my rig.  To use it you need to replace the blake256.cl file in your cgminer directory and delete all the .bin files.  This only works with the 3.7.2 cgminer release for blakecoin by the way (windows + linux)

The optimisations are basically rewriting it to explicitly use vector based operations (uint4).  Using the OpenCL profiler it confirmed that there were some performance improvements:
  • clock cycles per wavefront went from 88 down to 84
  • Scalar ALU operations went from 18 down to 17
  • Scalar General Purpose Registers went from 22 down to 19
  • All other metrics stayed the same

Interestingly the vector changes themselves didn't give the speedup I was hoping for as it seems the OpenCL compiler is clever enough to use vectors if it can but some of the other changes I made while restructuring to use vectors must have had a beneficial effect.
