I know that there are many kinds of alternative coins existing today, but is it better to have that many coins instead of having just a few? What are the benefits and harm in having that many alternative coins?
If you're full time on crypto then a big portfolio may be okay since you have all the time to manage and monitor your investment. If you're doing it part time, a few coin is fine as long as your coin are high profit potentials. As to how many coins we hold doesn't really matter. It's a question of how many can we handle...

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

It is better to have many altcoins for sure we can choose which one from that altcoins is most profitable when we hold it in the long term, if we have only one one or two altcoins it maybe that altcoins are not profitable and we are wasting our time to wait the price to increase in the market.

Diversification is the key to a healthy investment portfolio. So it is always better to have more different types of coins. I think its better to have different alt coin than to have only one because we can never tell if that coin which you have bought will be dump. I think in the future most of the 'shitcoins' will dissapear and only the altcoins with real and functional use cases will survive.

If I think, just have enough and do not have too much to invest with altcoin. Because Altcoin is the son of bitcoin, so he can bring you a loss. If you want to invest, a clear bitcoin investment will earn you a considerable profit in the future to come. Smiley

I think there is no harm, as you diversify the risks. The main thing is to choose worthy altcoins that have a future.

For me at least 3 altcoins is already enough for an investment as long as these coins you are keeping are promising one. There are lots of coins now in the market and I would recommend to chose from the top 50 lists.

First of all you won`t be able to manage if you have too many altcoins and you may miss the time when their prices pump or fall. The stress factor also is much greater of doing so.

Having a lot of alt coins can be easily manage these times because there is a portfolio where you can list all your coins and by checking it youll be able to see its current price, your profit and your total money if converted to bitcoin, dollars or any type of currency that you prefer. It is better for me to hoard different coins for a long term at a low price thus you have lots of chance to get richer by risking in buying different coins.

Well it is better to have a few alt-coin with a bright or good price in the future,
Rather than having a lot of shit-coin that would just be dump continuesly until there would be no more demand for it.

If you have a lot of bitcoins let say at least 20 bitcoins then you can go for a lot of altcoins to hold but if you only have a few bitcoins then stick to few altcoins. It is always about risk management that will help you make a lot of profit by investing in altcoins and it is not a good idea to invest in shitcoins because those are just good for whales because they can manipulate it.

In my opinion, it all depends on how potential coins you have, you may have plenty of altcoins but still keep them that have great potential for the future, because if you have altcoin lots, you have a higher chance that you will get luck in one from them.

A thorough research is needed while bagging your altcoins. You need to think with your head. And so the top 10 will not fail.

Having few altcoins quite makes me feel happy. It is like collecting different kinds of coins in your wallet no matter what the value is. But most of the times I looked for it's value and if it's not that high price, I'm keeping it. I think having lots altcoins is too risky especially to hackers that's why I dont want to keep as many. If I have valuable ones, I rather trade it then keep the lowest prices ones as my collections.

It's good to have at least the top 10 altcoins in the market. Buy those which have practical use cases as their value will be derived from their usage, hence affecting the demand and supply.  Also having a bunch will allow you to track their growth much easier, hence giving you more control.

I prefer to have many altcoins to just a few. It is a way of spreading your investment and minimizing risk. If you have, for instance, five altcoins out of which two are from scam project and the other two from failed project, then you will be left with just one altcoin. This is not good enough.

What I think is it is good to a diversified portfolio. I hold more of bitcoins than altcoins because I associate bitcoin with safety, that I don't really get to see in the altcoins. But at the same time holding a few good altcoins with a good rapport in the market. And as a matter of fact, it requires a lot of market research to choose a good altcoin for your investment portfolio. All n all according to me it is better to have only a few alternative coins instead of having many. No doubt the security issues are being fixed to a great extent these days to due to increased awareness on this bitcointalk forum. But still there is way too much too be done in order to avoid upcming scams!

If youre an investor, investing in ICO or buying tokens in exchanges, it is better to have a few altcoins, the lesser the lower riskt of profit loss. When you are only bounty hunter, it is better to have a lot of altcoins, the more the merrier!

The best way is to choose Bitcoin or Ethereum like a main coin and some other coins like extra investment

I think it is better to have only few altcoins in your wallet and only those that are already popular in the market because those altcoins are having a higher tendency to recover at any downfall than those that are just new in the market especially at this moment whereas the market is continuously falling. Only those strong cryptos will survive this uncertainty. So if you are holding some, just continue doing so.
