Is owning money a crime? Because money facilitates the trading of such illegal things, too. If/when Bitcoin is regulated in your country of residence and you are obligated by law to declare any possession of Bitcoin but you haven't done so, then owning Bitcoin might be illegal.

Owning BTC cannot be compared to owning a weapon, and guns can still be legally held for self protection. BTC isn't harmful to anyone and cant kill either, so holding it isn't as illegal

Not where I am from. There is no penalty or punishment for the owing, buying, selling or use of bitcoin so it is not a crime neither is it illegal.

How can holding a digital currency be a crime !?
NO it's obviously not a crime .
Though it's anonymous and many nations kinda restrict and don't want their public to interact with bitcoins and other crypto currencies directly , holding it wouldn't be considered a crime.

Owning BTC is not a crime at all. in some countries BTC has been banned and is considered illegal while in others its legalized, so it entirely depends on which country one is,

Yes it is not a crime by owning a bitcoin so I think bitcoin cannot be used as illegal money  ir is only the new of or new method of payment so I think bitcoin has not been used as illegal or holding bitcoins is not illegal .

Agreed. It depends on the person holding a bitcoin. Wether he/she will use it in an illegal transaction. But it doesn't mean that if bitcoin is used for illegal purposes, holding a bitcoin is a crime.

Wow, Canada is really making actions do apprehend the criminals and protect the people from crimes. Owning bitcoin is not a crime if you only use it for legal purposes. I can't believe we humans always make a way to make things worst. These people in the deep web abuses technology and only use it for their selfish and dangerous actions. Its up to us whether we use bitcoin for the greater good or the evil.

Owning bitcoin is not a crime, the crime there occurs when you buy something illegal using bitcoin. The problem here if someone will set up a black market for his contraband and accepts digital currency as payment but i think it is traceable. Not good for illegal activities if this digital currency is traceable.

It would mean that this forum is full with hardcore criminals. Thymos would be some like godfather Don Corleone, with all his lieutenants and soldiers, If you wish to join the clan you need to pass  initiation, like to hack some bank or old lady and then you will be able to join us here. What kind of thread this newbies post is sometimes ridiculous. Sometimes I don`t should I laugh or cry, but somethings will never change I guess, they keep coming and there is no cure for that.

Owning bitcoin or any other cryptos is not a crime in Canada. The Canadian government is just worried for the black market trade that is happening through dark web where the medium of payment is crypto currency. That's where the problem is. Even we can't deny the fact that crypto currency is an ideal medium of payment for such illegal trades. That's where the gap exists. Neither the Canadian government nor this article mentioned that owning crypto currency is illegal in Canada. It's the usage of crypto currency to facilitate such illegal trades through dark web. The existence of dark web is the problem for them and it is true for the majority of the countries nowadays. But this gap can be bridged through proper training to the investigating officers. Blindly saying crypto currency is illegal, is not what the article means. So stop panicking!

Having a lot of money is not a crime. It all depends on how they are earned and for what purpose they are directed.A person who does not have a gun can be a criminal and without it, For example, be a drug dealer or a thief. In some cases, bitcoin can be an instrument in the hands of criminals. But I believe that bitcoin should carry a peaceful mission. And most people have good intentions.

It depend on the country. For example, in Russia owning bitcoin is not a crime, but if you try to pay in bitcoins this is a serious crime. If you change BTC for fiat and do not pay taxes - this is a crime.

It depends on the person who hold it and the country that he lived in. We have perception about the bitcoin curremcy some may said that it use for crimes such as gambling, on tge other side that it's their hope to build their better future, that it helps them to provide their neccesities. For me owning a bitcoin is not a crime like what i said earlier it depends on a person who holds it. Yes, maybe other country considered it as a crime cause bitcoin is uncontrollable which a single person can't stop it. For me i would just support bitcoin, cause I can get more benefits with it.

I don't think that owning bitcoin is a crime but maybe in a country that doesn't allow bitcoin, it will be a crime. but I don't see that if we own bitcoin, we can break any law. and if you are afraid to own bitcoin then you can sell your bitcoin and get the money and get out from bitcoin without any plan to come back in bitcoin world again.
