Unless anyone strongly objects to it, I'm going to kill the site chat.  It isn't being used any time I'm on the site and it's almost time for me to pay for it.

I can bring it back later, or I can try to implement a a freenode frame later on if people are dying for chat.

Honestly, I think you, me, johndec and 24Kilo were the only ones to ever really "use" it.  I love the map app that shows where people are, but I might be able to code something like that in anyway.

Plus, I think I can just as easily put up a freenode frame on the dashboard page and it would fill the same role.  If I fail at he freenode window, I'll add the chat app again, but it will be branded with the company's ad.  I'm not paying $20 a month to remove it.

So in the haste of getting my dad's rig up and running, I forgot something.  I would start the miners, walk away and then come back to the rig shut off.  Start it up and it says it recovered from an unknown error(windows for ease of setup).  I tried a couple different things, but it kept doing the same thing.  Then it hit me at like 3AM while I was laying in bed awake thinking about what could be wrong.

Sleep mode.  I forgot to turn off sleep mode.  /Facepalm

LOL the little things in life..

<3 BAMT lol

Windows mining was pretty easy to setup, I tried it a few times for giggles. Pretty much load the program, and it would do the rest. Just not for me because I can't manage a farm of them as easily as I can with linux, where I can simply ssh in and load the screen of cgminer.

It's possible to load ssh on windows and it's possible to load a screen-like terminal setup. Just, far far easier for my application to use linux.

I love both OS's, for non-miner work.

I'm going to be testing some Asus P8Z68-V-Pro motherboards to see how compatible they are with BAMT, and report back the results of 7950 and R9 280 cards.

And yeah I remember scouring threads for the 7950's. I was super happy when I could get my Sapphire over 620, eventually 670. My MSI's would do 650 with ease, then I squeezed them to 670s, then 680's, finally 700 stable for all of them. Was able to OC some and push them to 725/730 stable, it was crazy.

And now the 280x series has arrived. Definitely going to be fun. For now, I'm fine with 730/740, and would love to see 750 or more with the TOXIC.

Figures, the Asus P8 motherboard's DOA. My shipment of ASRock 970 is sitting on a truck where it's been sitting for the whole week. Probably got stolen with my luck lol.

Case of TOXIC is sitting next to me with no decent motherboard to try it on. Guess I'll have to find a motherboard somewhere around ye olde office.

Case of TOXIC...

No big deal... just a CASE OF TOXIC sitting next to me lol.

LOL ... it's not as many as you think. I grabbed a desktop I'm building for my dad and pulled the guts out and tossed a toxic card in it, with bamt 1.2/cgminer 3.7.2. Going to test it out, find a sweet spot, and then toss it in my bamt1.1/cgminer 3.5 rig to see how it compares.

Test System Specs
ASRock N68C-GS FX, HyperX 4gb ram, Athlon X2 270, 600watt PSU
BAMT 1.2, Cgminer 3.7.2
Only 1 GPU

Power Results:
Test System Idle: 73w
Test System Full Load Min: 410w
Test System Full Load Max: 455w
Test System GPU Wattage: 337-382w

*Notes:
Red - Hashing but 0 accepts, nothing but HW errors
Orange - Power figures can be reduced by 20w when over 75c, as GPU uses more power when hotter

Test System Results
There's going to be variation on the wattage due to the fans running 100% and the temps running high because of stock cooler in a stock case. I estimate lower wattage draw with better cooling, as well as increased hashrate.

It's interesting to see the power use of these vs the MSI 280x's which draw 300w or less under full load.

Updates

I swapped an MSI R9 280x into the test system, and put the TOXIC into the mining rack where the MSI was. Noticing immediate differences. The MSI, which was doin 740, can't break 665 on the test system. I will post full specs of the test system shortly.

The BETTER news--the TOXIC is reaching astonishing levels. Currently over 805kh at 70C with the stock cooler (noticeably loud though). This shows me the test system config doesn't do well with mining, as it provided low hash across 2 different cards. The test system is a desktop for someone else, so luckily they won't be using it to mine with.

Mining Rig System
ASRock 970 Extreme4, Sempron 145, HyperX 2gb ram, 1050watt psu
BAMT 1.1, Cgminer 3.4.3
3 GPUs

Mining Rig System Results so far: TC, Engine, Memory, KH, Temp (stock cooler, 88*F ambient)

24000, 1100, 1800, 785kh, 73c
24000, 1160, 1800, 805kh, 74c

Note:
Purple - I'm going to keep running at this speed to see how things go.

Overall Results

The TOXIC performed far better in my dedicated mining rig setup, I presume something to do with the 970-EX4 being superior than its little cousin. These results weren't tested for hours for stability, but are based on stable results after letting it sit for short periods between each change. In order to make it to the results, there had to be 0 HW errors as well. I tried variations of these settings, but the results were negligible, which is why they didn't make the list.

It's worth noting the stock cooler does a decent job in an open-air setup, but sitting in a case it was choking (even with the case sides off). When the same card is put in a closed case with a Prolimatech MK26, it stays cool. I will be replacing these stock coolers with Prolimatech MK26 units.

As for what to use, if you want to play it safe, I suggest 1050 or 1080 for Engine, and 1500 for Memory. This should give you 750-760 without issues. For those among us who want to push it to the edge, take a look at the other settings.

Hope these results help someone.

More Followup

It's been half a day and the Toxic is running great at 808kh, no issues.

Also I found out what caused the slow output on the test system, cgminer 3.7.x came with an older scrypt kernel. I use a tweaked/modified one (the same I use on my rig racks) and as soon as I copied it over, the test system started providing higher outputs. The MSI R9 280X went from 633kh to 735/740kh.

So.. mystery solved.

For anyone interested, here's the tweaked one: scrypt130511Tahitiglg2tc24000w256l4.bin

Copy that overtop the one currently in your cgminer folder, and restart cgminer. Use 24000 for TC, and you should see good results. For 7950's, use 1130/1250 (eng/mem). Works for R9 280X's as well, I use 1080/1500 for my MSI's.

3rd Jackpot

Alrighty folks, here's the info:

There were 348 total rounds for the week.  To be eligible for this jackpot, you would have needed to submit shares to 75% of those rounds, equaling 261 rounds.  There were 18 people, including myself, who qualified for the jackpot.  This was out of 199 miners who mined on the pool this week.  The qualifying miners are as follows:

anchous
Andrewgaven
Eukaluis
flywin
Joe-Trojan
johndec
kubur (previous week win - excluded)
KungFoolKillYoo
lovecraftian
mevecco
Namamonkee
ny2cafuse (excluded from jackpots)
raamid
Sergik
TagCoinDaddy
totmacher12000 (previous week win - excluded)
vesperwillow
zybqe177

This week's and last week's total fees and donations equal roughly 240TAG.  So half of that, the total jackpot purse, is 120TAG.  Imagine what it would have been if we had stayed above 300MH the whole week!

This week's winners are as follows:

1st place - Vesperwillow        60TAG     TXID 80ea4db85a68fb83c1b594d439a4d20a5de9ecec8ef823d066908001113bcec3
2nd place - KungFoolKillYoo   36TAG     TXID 06932d01cc12cf26db19ac8de831373bdc5a237a30e42ec0ec271ec71dc471cd
3rd place - raamid                   24TAG     TXID b9ea516540dcee5d450122d7f6e57f9d7189e53b40820e611496f22664ae1211

Payments will be sent shortly, and TXID numbers will be posted above.

Congratulations, miners!  Good luck to everyone next week!

Vesper, those are some interesting results.  I'm wondering why you aren't getting closer to 750kh in Linux.  Tempted to get back on the linux train and try to get a nice working image for future rigs.

I might mess around with that today, now that the jackpot is taken care of.

I think it was something with the test system. When I popped it into my mining rack, KH shot up across the board. I'm logging the results now.

Finished doing my tests for the day. I'm going to let the card sit on the overclock for awhile and see how it goes. Need to swap the coolers out, and I'm waiting for motherboards to come in before I can put any other toxic cards to use.

Got mine from Amazon for $349, they're out of stock, but if you're willing to pay a premium, Newegg has them for $470.

Considering these seem flexible on hashrate, I don't think that premium price is too much, though I'd much rather them for $349..

Nice results, Vesper!

I got mine @ $440 on Newegg 2 weeks ago.  Seems like they just keep bumping up the price when they come in stock.  I'm honestly going to start sitting on Amazon all day trying to 1-click buy units like you do.  $349 is a steal.  Damn you, Vesper!

Easy Auto Refresh is a great browser plugin to do the refreshing for you Wink I waited 4 weeks for them to flash on my screen, I was hyper when I got them in my cart.

Amazon doesn't mark-up which is nice, but with folks like me, their stock drops in moments. Newegg marks prices up and limits customer quantity, but this at least lets someone buy the card if they absolutely want to.

Happy with the hash results so far.

Vesper,

How many gpu threads are you running? Are you specifying an argument for '-g' or just letting it default? I have had no success at running at higher then TC 8192 with a value of '-g 2' on any of my cards.

I am not specifying anything in my config file for that, I believe it defaults to 2 but I might be wrong. Here's my config file on the mining rig with the Toxic (it's the middle card):

"intensity" : "19,20,20",
"worksize" : "256,256,256",
"kernel" : "scrypt,scrypt,scrypt",
"thread-concurrency" : "40960,24000,24000",
"api-port" : "4028",
"expiry" : "120",
"gpu-engine" : "1080,1160,1080",
"gpu-memclock" : "1500,1800,1500",
"gpu-powertune" : "20,20,20",
"temp-overheat":"87,87,87",
"temp-target":"50,50,50",
"log" : "5",
"no-pool-disable" : true,
"queue" : "1",
"scan-time" : "60",
"scrypt" : true,
"shares" : "0",
"kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin"

Toxic is still going 805kh strong several hours later, no issues.

I run with the -g 2 switch as well, 24Kilo.

Vesper, what VRAM temps are your cards running at?  I wonder what the upper limit is on those.

What is the 'no-pool-disable' value?

Never measured it before, if you have a link to a linux utility for it, I'll take a look. Better than stock I'd hope, as I put additional heatsinks on the VRM's. The TOXIC OEM VRM heatsinks look beefy.

What is the 'no-pool-disable' value?

Going from memory, I believe it prevents cgminer from permanently disabling a pool if it can't connect to it, instead it will try to connect in the future. I might be wrong though.
