Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

I guess the best way for a newbie to start selling is if he/she agrees on the terms of the buyer, let it be escrow, sending the goods first, and so on. Hopefully the "community" eventually indeed lets others use the market here as well, to be able to convert assets to BTC.

Part of the reason I joined here was to weigh transitioning to P2P transactions rather than only the most established exchanges as it would make everything a bit more liquid/make small frequent transactions easier. Larger online currencies/financial options really have little to lose with bitcoin...

What has surprised me is the lengths people will go to scam a few BTC from someone.  People are endlessly creative and devious.
