Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

I don't trust any online wallets but I have to deal with them for now until the official Bitcoin client finishes syncing. Thank the net it's finally at 98%.

ya, like is the lack of trust why we have to post in the newbie section before we can reply to the thread that lead us to the sight?  Wow, it took me 3 months to figure that one out.   But this seems to be that place to be to hook up with fellow bitcoiners!

Being involved in internet business for about 10 years, I can agree to trust nobody. The minute you so, is the moment you first get taken advantage of. It's a cruel way to look at things, but the internet is full of scammers left and right.

It doesn't make me feel better that sites like BitInstant, etc. seem to have issues more frequently than other things I use on a regular basis. Every time some site is down, I just assume they're up to something shady.

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't after you
